Just got back from a range trip with my (new to me) Desert Eagle 44MAG Mark I . . . I'm still smiling![]()

If it's a gun to make you feel like you're 12 again, the DE is the way to go.
On the downside, I don't think there is a quicker way to blow through a box of 44MAG that quickly.
Keep in mind that DE has gas operating mechanism and you must shoot jacketed bullets only, no cast ones. As for calibre, ask yourself do you want to have show piece and fired it once in a blue moon, or you want a gun that you will shoot. If first, 50AE is the way to go. If second, get 44.
Also, if I am not mistaken, Glock barrel and lead-cast bullets don't get along well. For that reason, Bar-Sto makes Glock barrels with conventional rifling, plus fully supported chamber http://www.barsto.com/category_main.cfm?ID=GLOCK , a big plus IMHO.
If you do not like to chase your brass all over the range, get DA revolver. Wanna shoot big one, get 454, 460 or 500 revolver and you will see and experience roar and recoil.
Cheaper version is 44 in Redhawk or Super Redhawk. Load it with one of those 300 gr bullets with top load of W296 or H110, 50 to max 100 rounds in a single day is all you need to get well shaken.
