I was not sure if I should buy a Glock 22 3rd Gen now at the reduced price of $599 or wait for the new 4th Gen at the higher price.

I was wondering if the improvements in the 4th Gen are worth it?

Any opinions/advice would be appreciated.

Gen4's cosmetically are the same. If you need to adjust the strapping to suit your bigger hand, and you can justify the difference in cost, then go for it. Or you could get a gen3 and put on a hogue slip-n grip and that will add some width for ya.... Until they completely phase out the gen3's the gen4's are guna be bought mostly for the ambiance of having the "latest and greatest" performance wise I cant see a big enough difference to justify the extra doe...

Check out reports on other sites, the GLOCK Gen 4 are being reviewed and the reviews are great.
Adjustable grip size and new grip angle, new dual springs that reduce recoil of a .40 to a 9mm, and better reliability with lights seem to be the major changes. Some people who hate GLOCKs really like the new grips.
I'd wait for the GEN 4, try it and the GEN 3 and see what you like better. The Gen 4's should hold their value and be easier to sell in the future also.

example review from a police site:
OK, time to report back from the range from yesterday afternoon. The brass and I took the Gen4 22 out and put it through the paces. I personally fired over 200 rounds through our test model with a Surefire X200 light attached and did not have one malfunction. The reduced grip (I opted for the SF) gave me so much more control over the weapon, and the dual recoil spring really made it feel like I was shooting a 9mm, especially in rapid fire.

2 thumbs up to Glock for really bringing it on with this new weapon. Our orders will be placed later this morning and we should have them by the end of the week.

The New GLOCK 22 Gen4 and GLOCK 17 Gen4 Pistols

Las Vegas, NV --(AmmoLand.com)- GLOCK, Inc. has unveiled new pistols at the 2010 SHOT Show in Las Vegas – the GLOCK 22 Gen4 and GLOCK 17 Gen4.

The GLOCK 22 Gen4 in .40 caliber and GLOCK 17 Gen4 (Generation 4) in 9×19 are featured in the #14049 GLOCK booth this week.

The new Gen4 has several new features designed to satisfy the most demanding consumers.

Most noticeably, the Gen4 design has a multiple backstrap system that allows the user to change the circumference of the grip to fit their individual hand size.

The grip has three options; a short frame version, medium frame or large frame that are easily changed and secured with a single pin.

The magazine release catch of the Gen4 is reversible and enlarged. The reversible magazine catch allow users to switch access of the catch to the left or right side of the pistol with no additional parts.

Internally, the original recoil spring has been replaced with a dual recoil spring assembly. The dual recoil spring assembly noticeably reduces the recoil while simultaneously increasing the life cycle of the pistol.

Additionally, the Gen4 has a new Rough Textured Frame (RTF) surface designed to enhance grip traction and is present on the frame as well as the interchangeable backstraps. During recent grueling endurance testing and at the SWAT Round Up International competition, several police agencies had a chance to handle and shoot the new pistols and many positive comments were made about the design changes. Gary Fletcher, Vice President at GLOCK, Inc. mentioned that “GLOCK, Inc.’s dedication to perfection has made GLOCK the chosen firearm for many Law Enforcement agencies around the world. The Gen4 is just another step in GLOCK, Inc.’s commitment to producing the best firearm for Law Enforcement, Military, Federal Law Enforcement/Military and the law abiding citizen.”

The Gen4, just like any GLOCK pistol, has the same time tested “Safe Action” system, durable exterior finish, cold hammer forged barrel, durability, reliability and light weight that make GLOCK firearms famous. All GLOCK pistols are backed by the GLOCK Limited Lifetime Warranty and world-class customer service and support that is second to none in the firearms industry.
