I pre-ordered one back in February, expecting it at the LGS by the end of March. Due to a screw-up in paperwork on Glocks part, mine, and a bunch of other people’s were rejected for entry and sent back. It took until last week for them to get their issues straightened out, and get them shipped and delivered.
I picked mine up this morning. I had a hundred rounds of ammo in the trunk, so I did a quick strip down and cleaning, and ran some rounds through it.
Man, do I ever like this pistol! I have a 19X that knocked the longstanding gen 3 model 19 from it’s “most favourite” spot; greater accuracy, much improved trigger, no finger notches, all together made the 19X a superior gun..
The 48 interested me because it was a step back to my roots; a single stack 9mm. I started shooting handguns back in the 70’s with a S&W model 39, and a single stack is where my sweet spot is. 15,17 rd capacity means nothing to us in Canada anyway except unutilized extra bulk, so I was curious how that would translate in a GLock
Turns out, it translates very, very well. I have smaller hands, and the grip is perfect, though some will find it too small, I’m sure. While it didn’t get all of the gen 5 upgrades, it got the important stuff; the marksman barrel and a better trigger..trigger is heavier than the 19X, by a couple of pounds, I think. It’s quick shooting, very fast on target, and not a lot of muzzle flip given how light it is.
I thought for a minute I had a recoil spring problem; looking at it from the muzzle end, there’s just an open hole; you can’t see the face of the spring at all. Since the 43X and the 48 share frames, they share recoil springs as well. With the longer slide on the 48, the recoil spring is stopped by a retainer in the slide and sits about 3/4in back from the muzzle.
Without a magazine, it’s very top-heavy and nose heavy. A loaded mag balances it out nicely. They had a couple that had been locally cerekoted all black, and they look really nice but I like the contrasting slide; looks a little classy,
Being a Glock 100 rds went through it with no hiccups. I plan on spending the day Saturday running a thousand or so rounds through it, but so far, I’m liking it a great deal
