I pre-ordered one back in February, expecting it at the LGS by the end of March. Due to a screw-up in paperwork on Glocks part, mine, and a bunch of other people’s were rejected for entry and sent back. It took until last week for them to get their issues straightened out, and get them shipped and delivered.

I picked mine up this morning. I had a hundred rounds of ammo in the trunk, so I did a quick strip down and cleaning, and ran some rounds through it.

Man, do I ever like this pistol! I have a 19X that knocked the longstanding gen 3 model 19 from it’s “most favourite” spot; greater accuracy, much improved trigger, no finger notches, all together made the 19X a superior gun..

The 48 interested me because it was a step back to my roots; a single stack 9mm. I started shooting handguns back in the 70’s with a S&W model 39, and a single stack is where my sweet spot is. 15,17 rd capacity means nothing to us in Canada anyway except unutilized extra bulk, so I was curious how that would translate in a GLock

Turns out, it translates very, very well. I have smaller hands, and the grip is perfect, though some will find it too small, I’m sure. While it didn’t get all of the gen 5 upgrades, it got the important stuff; the marksman barrel and a better trigger..trigger is heavier than the 19X, by a couple of pounds, I think. It’s quick shooting, very fast on target, and not a lot of muzzle flip given how light it is.

I thought for a minute I had a recoil spring problem; looking at it from the muzzle end, there’s just an open hole; you can’t see the face of the spring at all. Since the 43X and the 48 share frames, they share recoil springs as well. With the longer slide on the 48, the recoil spring is stopped by a retainer in the slide and sits about 3/4in back from the muzzle.

Without a magazine, it’s very top-heavy and nose heavy. A loaded mag balances it out nicely. They had a couple that had been locally cerekoted all black, and they look really nice but I like the contrasting slide; looks a little classy,

Being a Glock 100 rds went through it with no hiccups. I plan on spending the day Saturday running a thousand or so rounds through it, but so far, I’m liking it a great deal

excellent to hear!
im in the same boat as you, have a 19 gen3 and its.... meh.....
got a 19X and LOVE IT!
picked up a 48 because i have small hands and am thinking the single stack will be nice.

I got a set of Glock night sights on mine, only because they were shorted on their order and didn’t get any with the cheap plastic numbers. I have a set of sights to put on it anyway, but I’ll leave the Glocks in place for the time being.
I broke down and went back to the range with more ammo. I’ve got to say, it fits me better than the 19X does. Heavier trigger, mostly because it’s new I think. It’s got a nice, short reset; less than 1/4in I’d guess, so it’s fast. Reach is noticeably shorter; no pad of the finger for me, and I’ve got fairly small hands.

The frame isn’t built nearly as heavily as the 19X is. Mag well walls are thinner, recoil spring cover is thinner. Tomorrow I’m going to put some calipers on it to compare the two. It is lighter, for sure.

I ran 350 rds through it today, and it shoots nice and tight; I’m already seeing I’m shooting tighter groups with it; I think it’s dead on the sweet spot dimensionally for me. I’m not working as much to optimize my grip. My hand falls on it correctly almost every time. A bit more felt recoil than the 19X, which I expected, but it’s not snappy at all or hard to hang onto. Less muzzle rise than expected.

Sorry, that’s pretty disjointed; just writing down things as I think of them. I’m still planning on running a bunch of ammo through it on the weekend. I’m thinking that given the trouble everyone seems to be having getting them into the country, and the potential trouble from Trudeau & company over the summer, these are going to be hard to come by; it’s a damn nice little pistol. Compact, thin, light, points really well, shoots fast, it’s got a lot going for it, and that’s just my gut read on it after less than a day of ownership.

I just bought a 48 for my GF. She has a 19 and I have a 19x. She can’t wait to try the smaller grip. I really loved the Ameriglo bold sights and holding it it feels great. Can’t wait to try it more than her now!

Just buy a 3.5 lb connector (fits G43, 43X, G48) and change it.

My G43 had a very heavy trigger until I did this. Even with the lighter connector the trigger weight is about 5lbs +

My 48 is heavier than the 19X was for sure. I will probably put a lighter weight connector in if it doesn’t loosen up a bit more after a thousand rounds or so
Wolf, I ran all three weights yesterday; It favours 124 gr. A bit, but 147 and 115’s are pretty darn close. I found the same with other gen 5’s, especially the 19X. It also does a small bit better with 124’s but it eats them all well enough that I wouldn’t drive an extra 10 miles just to get 124 gr. Rounds, if that makes sense. I plan on being a bit more scientific with my testing on the weekend, but my gut impression from yesterday I expect will be proved out

Awesome to hear Pops - 124 it is ! I prefer even number to odds any day too for some reason. Na I'd be prolly getting western metal to supply me the rounds , no driving involved and ain't handloading 9mm on the single

Hey so another question to handgun guys - what's the golden distance for accuracy / load development testing on handguns then ? Use a rest or just double grip ? 10/15/20 yards ?

Like for a rifle it's typically 100 yards and fully rested / bagged. Sometimes 200 yards

Thanks

For me, I like 10, standing, your normal 2 hand grip. That’s just me. I personally see no point in developing a favorite load for a gun at a range you’ll seldom shoot. I know the keyboard commando’s will jump all over me for that, but I’ve been shooting for about 45 years, competed for a number of them in the 80 & 90’s, and although there is some need in competitiion for 25 yd shots, they’re minimal. Most is 3, 5, 7 and 10, some 15, some 25.
I like a load that’s accurate at 10, which is generally really tight at half that. Since I do most of my range shooting at 7 yds, seems to me for my enjoyment, it’s the best bang for the buck. Besides, if you’re competing, you’re likely not using a 48 for it.

I agree completely, pistols aren't the correct tool for punching 1 hole groups at distance, if you're reasonably "on centre" with a B21 at 15 yards, it's good enough. Also, pistols are designed to be shot standing, off hand so that's how they should be judged.

Where can these be found in Canada? I'm also looking for mag pouches where the shipping isn't more expensive than the pouch.
