Considering either a 48 or 17.
Never owned a glock, but would like to at least try it.
My intrigue with the 48, is to get good purchase on the grip, as my fingers are slightly shorter.
The 17 is tried and true, and it appears to have less muzzle flip in comparison.

I have had g17s 19s and a g26 at one time. Loved them all. I was hesitant on buying the G48 because of mags as I can’t use them in some of my GLock compatible carbines. I bought the g48 anyways and was glad I did. I realy like the feel of it in my small hands. I wish there were more after market parts for it in Canada though. Like triggers, grip plugs and such.
I only own a G 48 now and really like it
 
My suggestion is to get your hands on both before you make your decision.

You'll know right away.
 
They are totally different guns in my mind, except perhaps for the trigger. Apples to oranges comparison and I see lots of people like the 48, but it is the size of a Glock 19 with the modified compact frame width of a Glock 43. The 17 is the original McCoy, full frame and your standard thickness. Put them both in your hand before making a decision.
 
I have a Glock 17 gen 5, If you never held either one you might want to try holding one first because they are not the most comfortable to hold the Glock 48 it's a lot smaller and unless you have real small hands your pinky is not going to fit on the grip which I found uncomfortable. If we were allowed to carry in Canada tho the 48 is way smaller and lighter I would get one for that specific purpose.

I got my Glock honestly because I have a FX-9 already so I had the magazines for it so might as well :) I love my Sig P226 tho its much nicer to shoot and hold then my Glock.
 
As others have said, handle them both as they are very different beasts lol. I would also throw a G19 in the mix and handle that also, I have small hands and my choice would be between the 19 and the 48, not the 17. That being said I also own a 17 and love it, so try all three if possible
 
I'm lucky to have both glock 48 and gen 4 glock17 - which i like better then gen5 btw., they look similar but they are very different. Right after shooting the 48, 17 feels unnecessary large lol but im more accurate with it so its not going anywhere.
 
try a m and p 9 i have owned glocks and others, glock does nothing better than s and w, they are a little over priced. your talking range gun right?? pick them up, put them in your hand, the m and p s, feels alot better in my hand than any glock.
 
As other has stated, I would suggest getting your hands one the 17, 19 and the 48 before making a decision. the 17 and the 48 feel VERY different. You will have more aftermarket options and mag compatibility as far 17 goes but the 48 is a very friendly pistol to shoot. Of all my hand guns, my brother likes shooting the 48 the most and his hands are like grizzly paws.

good to know.

im not confortable with gen 4 g19 but i do really like the g19x i need to find someone with a g48 at the range to see how it feels to get a better opinion. feeling in agunshop is not the same as shooting it.
 
If large mechanics glove are a bit loose on you I’d recommend going for the G48.

My hands aren’t quite a large size, maybe a large medium, and I found that the G48 grip corners fit into the crooks of my finger joints, which resulted in a comfortable grip. The sharp corners of a double stack Glock catch me more in the flats between my finger joints and it’s really uncomfortable. It’s something that large handed people never experience.

A G17 grip is manageable and you can work around it, but why suffer through that when you have the option not to?

I find that gun makers who spend more time on ergo’s (CZ P10 and CZ 75, Walther PPQ, S&W M&P) have much larger corner radiuses, which mitigate this problem for people with hands smaller than large. Glock does not, and it’s likely the reason why so many people find them uncomfortable.

The best option would be to handle them side by side, but unless you live in a big centre with a good rental range then you’re #### out of luck!
