Based on the handgun ban, I'm looking to create longevity for the couple of pistols that I currently have. I'm hoping that some folks with real miles on their pistols can recommend a list of spare parts and perhaps where they can be found. I'm sure importing and buying/selling handgun parts is next to be banned. I'm not a high volume pistol shooter, but I hope to live a long time yet and I'll keep shooting these until I can't anymore.

I currently have:

Sig P320
- I've replaced the guide rod and spring and still have the originals so I'm good there.
- I've replaced the sear and spring and trigger with a Grey Guns competition set and I have the originals so I'm good there.
- I'm thinking I should buy a set of pins, take down lever, striker assembly, extractor, magazine catch and spring, slide stop. What else?

Glock 48
- this is completely factory and I'm less familiar with the internals. I'm assuming at least the basics such as striker assembly, extractor, connector, slide catch, magazine release, springs, etc. Suggestions?

Thanks.

If you don't shoot a 1000 rounds a week, I personally don't think you really need to worry about spare parts. You own 2 very reliable and robust pistols. These bad boys will be around a lot longer than you and I.

snipersyn is probably right for most people. But the OP's tastes might change and they might want to become a high volume shooter in the future. Or maybe nobody except Olympians will be doing any handgun shooting in the future. Who knows? Regardless, I'm a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy, and maybe the OP is too.

I'm half-joking in my previous post, but even if you can afford spare complete pistols, here's what I would prioritize:

1. Magazines, magazines, and more magazines. Mags are a consumable item, and any autopistol is useless without them.

2. Springs. Especially recoil springs (or RSA if applicable) and magazine springs. All springs will eventually fail though, and they're usually pretty cheap.

3. Firing pin / striker (or assemblies if applicable) and slide stop.

4. Extractor and ejector

5. IF you're going to do full detail strip of your pistols, then pin sets are a good idea. Sometimes they go missing when you go this deep, but if you're never disassembling that far then I probably wouldn't worry about it. (same with small springs you wouldn't normally pull out)

6. Fiddly bits specific to your pistol that might be easily damaged or lost. I don't know about the P320, but in my opinion for Glock this includes the slide plate and the striker spring cups and striker spacer sleeve.

As for a source, I'd ask your retailer first. They may swing you a deal.

My Glock 17 Gen 5 stop returning to battery after about 3000 rounds. So would definitely be a good idea to have a few RSA's on hand.

this checks out I suspect

I got some spare parts kits for my 226 and jericho, mind there isnt one for the 320 and 17 at least not prepackaged. Im collecting parts same as yourself currently, would be nice if there was pre packaged parts kits for the 320 and glocks.

Here's what I'd suggest for spares for each:

Sig P320 - Spare Sig P320

Glock 48 - Spare Glock 48

This would be ideal, bit unfortunately I don't have $2k to do this at the moment. I could muster up $500 for parts though.
I feel like it's a decent excuse to buy upgrade parts and then keep the stock parts as spares. But also if I can get my hands on the replacement parts that aren't typically considered upgrades (like trigger return springs and that sort of thing) I'd get some of those as well.

I currently don't have the funds and time to support this, but if I could I absolutely would. If my situation improves I hope to donexactly this.

Thats a good list, much appreciated.

Are parts also gonna be part of the ban?

Not that anyone is aware of. I wasn't a pistol guy at all previously, but around December 2020 I had a gut feeling this would happen so I got a couple before I couldn't. I'm glad I did because I was right. It just so happened that I really enjoy pistols now as well as all my others.
