Glock blocked: OPP dumps SIG for Glock

That would be a fun job until it isn't! Anyone know the RCMP quals to be an Air Marshal?

You have to be able to check in on time, not have an oversized carry on and no drinking on the plane... Likely more quals than that but those would seem pretty standard :p

Not as much fun as it sounds. US Air Marshal program has lots of trouble keeping staff, have to temporarily assign members of other federal agencies to cover the vacancies. Think of the worst flight you have ever been on and times that by 100. Never mind the seemingly increasing number of idiots and crazy people who have been getting on planes more recently.

Somehow this turned into a thread of Sig vs Glock again. Obviously the Glock isn't "perfection," neither is the Sig. No gun is perfection - all about personal preference. How it feels, how it shoots, what you're using it for. I'm expecting this post to get buried anyways but seriously both are great guns - pick the one you like better.

The "perfection" slogan is incomplete, the full slogan is "perfection in simplicity" which to date Glock still reigns supreme on. How it "feels" is a personal opinion and not rooted in facts so it has no bearing on determining the performance of a firearm or any tool for that matter. Nor should personal opinion be used to decide on a life saving piece of equipment.

Why subsonic?? Not that 147gr ammo has a poor record terminally but why subsonic? Bullets leaving an aircraft are not a serious issue.

I was going on the assumption that bullets going out or into a pressurized aircraft at 30000 ft would be an issue. But my info comes from all those darn hijacking movies with girls getting sucked out of the airplane from explosive decompression.
I suppose even a subsonic round will put a nice hole through an airplane.

I thought the air Marshall only reveals him/herself during a true aircraft threatening emergency? Or is that another movie fallacy?

Correct on all points. ☺

Just wait until you find out that the US Air Marshals carry .357 SIG, lol.

They do??? Why? If it was me, i would want the slowest, fattest bullet ever. Maybe a .38S&W?

That's why I knew you'd find it so mind blowing. I can just picture the decision making bureaucrats in their procurement meeting.

"Hey, what small frame semi round has the best barrier penetration? Because we should probably use that on airplanes."

I am not the best shot in the land but I have shot beside many LEOs and it is my snotty opinion that they need easy to use and abuse sidearms, not the best sidearms. They don't train if they don't get paid for time and materials and they are stinky shooters for the most part. They also don't understand the device. KISS equals Glock.

Before I am pilloried please know that I have been out shoot by an LEO but he was a shooter and I have nothing but respect for him. I give no credence to LEO decisions about firearms if the conversation is about the superiority of one firearm vs another. LEOs are not firearms enthusiasts, the gun is a pen, is a flashlight, is a baton, is a hand cuff. Just a humble tool. One of many on their person.

The gun for police is a tool . Most I bet will only fire a handgun while on duty . So a simple easy to maintain tool is the key . The brass want to save money bet the glock is cheaper .

My recollection of OPP getting sigs was a special deal bypassing the Ontario distributor . I'm sure a sig distributor can comment .
