Glock Blocked: SIG P320 Remains New US Army Pistol As GAO Rejects Glock Claim

Jefferson he left out the fact Gen 4 slides were cracking with heavy use, and the Glock design was dated. The Gen5 addressed most of the issues, redesigning the slide, the frame and the trigger group. Aside from that the Glock Gen5 is the same Glock your Daddy owned. KiddX aka TDC aka.... got banned because most, not all, of what he posted was nonsense including what you just copied. His problem, when it came to the 320 was the US Army did not contact him for advice.

The SIG 320 won the US Army contract because the 320 aka M17 fulfilled the requirements of the US Army, now accepted by their Navy, Air Force and Marines, better than the competitors. It is far and away a better design. Move on. Glock lost SIG won.

The Glock redesigned Gen5, does nothing more than attempt to catch up to other premier offerings such as the SIG 320, CZ P10, S&W M&P Gen2 and Walther PPQ, all four of which are the equal of the Gen5 and offer in addition, key improvements. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with the Glock pistol and the Gen 5 offers a significant improvement over past iterations. The Gen 5's only downfall is that it offers no significant features the other four guns I listed don't have and doesn't offer some of the things the new guns do. There are a host of other makes that do compete with the Glock at the same level, their fan clubs are just smaller. All are very good designs and all will serve their owners well.

Today's striker fired world is not what it was in 1985. There are very few dogs being produced and as consumers we have a wide variety of choices. When we buy our favourite blaster we don't have to be butt hurt when our favourite fails to win some military contract nor do we have to act like we own the company.

There was some truth in what TDC/KiddX often talked about but he was too rigid and had the attitude of what worked for him MUST work for everyone else when it came to pistol design. His advice about obtaining training is good, he just seemed to ignore the fact there were other CGN'ers with training....some were trainers themselves. (not me, I'm only illustrating a point).

The one thing Glock did very well was to be extremely size efficient. I love HK's and Walthers due to their refinement over the Glock but both are noticeably larger than the Glock 19. If Gaston had designed the damn thing with a 1911 grip angle, I would have bought a G19 30 years ago and called it a day, rather than enjoying my collection of Glocks, HK's and Walthers today.

What I find interesting is the Glock 19 is almost the same size and the M&P FS . We don't get the M&P Compact nor the G 19 without the nipple barrel, but if we did I suspect the G19 would struggle to keep up. I wish S&W would produce, for Canada their Compact frame with the FS slide and barrel. The gun would be a winner with a barrel of 4.25" which is about the same as the Cdn version of the G19 without the humpy grip angle the Glock is so enamored with.

I do confess I do like the G19. I am struggling with joining the G crowd or working up a SIG 320 Compact frame/tacop top end with the X Five trigger group. I just have to win the Loto tonight. To many toys and not enough time to enjoy them all.

Nice resurrection on a 2 year old thread. But here we are. I have owned and disliked and sold several Glocks . I liked every other similar gun much better and still own most others. But now I went and bought a Ruger PCC that I bought a bunch of glock mags for. So guess what ? I am going out and buying a 19X just because I have some tan Glock mags. Im going to hate myself but I just can't get over how nice it looks in two tone tan and no stupid finger dangling 19 size grips. I'm even going to get an IWB appendix carry holster because it will make me look cool drawing in front of my full length mirror. True story. And............. because I have a tan coloured Shemagh.

I thought the US trials included a requirement that disassembly cannot require the trigger to be pulled. If Glock could change that, should help...

People should buy what ever blows their hair back and what ever helps them make the tightest groups. All the Polymer frame striker fired pistols on the market are the same #### in a different wrapper, save for a few differences. Getting butt hurt about what pistol won the contract is about as silly as getting butt hurt over which car your local PD chooses to use as their interceptor. Get over it.
