Glock brass won't size correctly

I don't use the Lee FCD as I shoot lead and resizing the lead bullets to less than 1/1000th over bore does not make any sense to me.
but the Lee FCD solves the problem (unless you're loading lead, as Canuck44 pointed out)
Wait, are you guys saying that Lee FCDs actually resize lead bullets and this could have an adverse effect on accuracy? I always noticed it ran tighter on lead-topped cartridges (you can sometimes see the lube groove imprint through the brass!) but would never have guessed it actually resized the bullet.

...Even with linotype?

I end up with a slight coke bottle effect on mine, but not so dramatic as yours, especially at the case head, but I also use the FCD

Question . One of my 40's is a S&W Sigma (Glock copy) My 40 cal reloads work 100% in my P226 & Ruger PC4 carbine But in my S&W I get well over 50% that do not fire . I remember reading in a Lee manual it said it is not recommended to fire reloads in Glock type firearms . WHY ?

my dillion square deal does the same thing.
but all my rounds chamber and fire out of my glock.
so like said "If it aint broke, don't fix it"

I think a lot of Glock shooters will choke when you compare your Sigma as a glock copy but that aside your Sigma has standard rifling so shooting lead in them is not a problem. You can shoot lead in a Glock provided you clean it after the shoot. If your gun shows signs of leading just take chor boy 100% copper strands and wrap them around an old cleaning brush. A couple of strokes and the lead is out.

Well one for their dies anyway.:D There .45Colt resizing die just barely threads low enough on my 550B to fully resize the cases. :(

Well since Glock sued S&W over it I would assume it is a copy . I will be honest & say I will chose a Sig over a Glock any day of the week & twice on Sunday . But we don't want to get into the my gun is better than your gun fight . My question wasn't on shooting lead . I reload 40 with Frontier copper plated slugs . The reloads feed no problem but half the time they don't go off . Factory loads work 100% & the reloads work in my Sig & Ruger 100%

Most lead bullets are .001 or .002" larger than jacketed. The lee FCD is meant for jacketed... if you have brass on the thick side of the tolerance the whole thing is swaged. The brass bounces back, the lead doesn't, and now it's a) undersized and b) a loose fit in the case.

Some guys have used them with lead successfully, I haven't, and I presume that they had some brass brand with thinner walls, or used smallish bullets, or both.

Huh, that makes sense, but I've factory-crimped hundreds upon hundreds of lead-topped .40s and .45s and have never noticed any loosening of the bullet in the case. Like I said, I definitely feel more pressure than with jacketed bullets, and I do get a "ghost-ring" on the case where the lube groove is, but I've never had any reason to stop doing it.

Thanks for the info though, I'll definitely keep it in mind and consider skipping the FCD when loading lead bullets.

Glock sued S&W over patient infringement regarding the trigger/safety mechanism. Beyond that they are both pistols so I guess that makes your Sigma a Glock copy.

FYI the Glock uses polygonial rifling your Sigma does not.

Thanks But that still has answered the question. Why dose LEE not recommend shooting reloads in glock TYPE pistols.

I've used a RCBS die on my 550 for years
I also us a Lee crimping Die
Never had a problem with Glock brass

The reason for the mix of Dies was that I had the RCBS dies before I bought the Dillion

It's the whole unsupported chamber business. Hot loads have a greater risk of blowing out the base of the cartridge in an unsupported chamber.

Safe loads are safe loads in any gun.

If you read most Gun Manuals from the factory they all pretty much say the same thing. Quoting the CZ85 Manual "Use only factory-manufactured standard ammunition of appropriate caliber....The use of other cartridges could damage the handgun or cause malfunctions or injury to shooter."

Leading in the barrels of Glocks with unsupported chambers can lead to kabboms - noteably in Glock .40cal. The claim is that the polygonial type barrels used by Glock tend to lead more. They probably do and there are Glock shooters who never clean their guns cause they are Glocks. For them shooting lead is probably not the best idea. Some buy replacement barrels for their Glocks with standard cut rifling to shoot lead.

I want to thank everybody who replied to my thread. Good advice & tips.

I was able to locate and purchase some Lee FCD's in both 9mm & .40S&W. Hopefully will have in my possession next week.
