Glock cleaning for newbies

I clean mine every time I shoot it. It's really not necessary but I enjoy it. It's like washing my car. Lots of people don't understand why I wash it weekly even though it's bound to get dirty the second it hits the road; but they're missing the point.

I’d like to understand what I’m missing by not wasting potable water every week…
 
I only ever cleaned the frame with a spray gun oil, a tooth brush and hot running water, then blow dry with an air compressor.

I really only use motor oil for lubrication.
