So having recently bought a glock on the EE that Black Box Custom's had worked on, I decided I wanted to swap out the barrel and put a muzzle break/compensator on it. Bought a 5.19" threaded barrel by Storm Lake, and ordered a pair of compensators from rockyourglock.com by Carver Customs (one in silver for my gen4 and one in black for my gen3). Well they arrived today... so naturally I had to check it out.

Gotta say, not impressed. Either the treading in the compensator isn't recessed enough, or the barrel is too long - either way, there's a 3/16th gap between the compensator and the frame/slide. It's also not very tight at that point, and without the included loc-tight there's no way it won't move around just by handling the gun. I bought a barrel by S3F on the EE today that's threaded... will see what happens when it arrives next week, as I guess I'll either be returning the compensators, or shopping for a different barrel and either selling or returning the one I bought...

I wasn't too sure what to expect, but every picture I look at online shows these significantly closer to the slide then this. I'm fairly certain that if this was what was shown to me... I would have looked elsewhere.

And because we all know threads like this are useless without pictures...

This is it as tight as it will go. The gap is 1/8th

This is with it backed off 3/4 of a twist. That gap is 3/16th's.

looks like they didnt thread it deep enough?

On the comp? I'm not sure that's the issue - the barrel is already sticking into the 1st upper port hole.

I'd send those pictures to the place you bought it and ask for a RMA number

On the compensators or the barrel? I've already emailed the manufacturer of the comps to show the issue I'm having.

I think what my issue is, is that the outside of the barrel is larger then the area that's threaded, and the comp is hitting that before it gets tight against the slide. I've also reached out to the place I bought the barrel from. Worse case I re-sell it on the EE for a minor loss, but I still have the packaging and I haven't fired it yet, so will see what they say and what my options are.

You don't want the comp tight against the slide but it should be tight to the threads and aligned with the bore when torqued. A small gap is necessary for reliable function. That said, the current grand-canyon gap is overkill. Three things you could do; 1- Try different barrel/comp pairings until you're happy. 2- Have a comp custom made to your barrel spec. 3- Have the barrel turned down and rethreaded to match the comp of your choice.

If I were you I would most likely go with #3 since you've already got the parts. Since its a black box gun I would send it to them and let them know what you'd like. I'm sure they could make it happen.
