Glock Gen 4 RSA Exchange

Just called yesterday(December 7th) and was told the wait would be about 2 months for my replacement spring as it has to come from the Canadian distributor.

Just an update. I received my spring in the mail on December 15th. Only took about a week to get here.

I sent an e-mail from the webpage and didn't get any kind of confirmation, so I assumed they didn't receive my request. Last week my spring showed up in the mail so I was pretty surprised. Haven't made it out to the range so I don't know if there's any improvement or not.

Hey guys, I call Glock Thursday morning and believe it or not, I just received it today ship from Toronto to Montreal (5 days weekend include). Wow that was fast!! The funny is that the lady from told me to expect at least 6-7 weeks since I'm from Canada. Btw did you guys send your old RSA back?

Return or not return...

I decided to return the RSA before I got the one in exchange. However, if you are wondering whether to return or not return, wonder no more. There is a significant diference in regards to how the spring is held against the slide. The original spring seems to rest on the slide but not completely flat. That is why some have experienced a "spring through" event when racking the slide ie. after field cleaning. The new one has a locking like washer on which the pring rests and the flat side on the front sits flat and tight against the slide. That change makes the pistol safe to shoot and less liable for a malfunction. My take is that it is not worth keeping. The other issue is that Glock does have record of the xchange and if there was any warranty needed, I wonder if they would then want it back or paid for. You make your own decision.

Until only recently have I been reading about all of the supposed issues with the Gen 4's chambered in 9mm. I have one. Put probably 2000 +/- rounds through it and have had 4 failure to feeds and all occurred while my gf was shooting it and occurred back to back. Shes shot far less with it than I have so it seems odd. Ive heard if you dont control the recoil it can cause a FTF but mabey a myth.

Other than those instances it has worked flawless. I have a new RSA on its way to me because I want to see about the difference it will make. Its p*ssing me off tho cause I bought a glock due to it being a reliable choice that should always work so what is the problem with the Gen 4's??

I get the RSA problem which a new spring should fix but is there anything else?? Ive read about possible ejector/extractor problems but are these isolated cases or something that effects all early Gen 4's??

RSA Exchange? Is there a series of serial numbers that are affected? I got my Glock 17 Gen4 in September, have only shot it once, didn't have an issue...?

Glock started to put the "updated" RSA in their product June/July 2011 {can't remember which :redface:} If your Glock {by ser #} was made after that date, the exchange doesn't apply to you. Incidentally, mine fell into the exchange and I had no problems with it whatsoever. I'm not sure what if anything has changed with the new RSA to be honest. :confused:

I believe april 25 is the cut off. Mine was first week of May and I didn't have any problems to begin with but I requested an exchange anyways as I had shot 4-5k of ammo so it was due for replacement anyways. Free replacement rocks :)

The problem with the early Gen 4's was because Glock used the G22 RSA in the G17 and the G23 RSA in the G19. They came out with a few different RSA's for the 9mm's and I think Glock finally got it right with the last one under the Exchange Program. There was never a problem with the G22's. But...the G19's had a problem on some guns where it was ejecting casings towards your face. Glock came out with a new ejector for the 9mm with an ejector numbered 30274. The .40 S&W gets a new ejector numbered 28926. Both the new RSA's and ejectors are coming out on the new guns now.

So I looked online, and the best way of figuring out if you Glock falls under the recall, is to call them with your serial number. They should have something online that you can check it with.

Agreed, but calling wasn't that much of a PITA. Have your ser# ready, mailing address ect. and you'll be done in less that 3 min. {tell them your Canadian}

Ive got an early Gen 4 and the RSA is already on its way to me. I have had some casings fly off in odd directions including straight back. Do you know if theres a replacement program for the ejectors as well?? The RSA rep at glock has "not heard of anything related to this matter" lol
