Took my new Glock out to the range to give her a whirl...

Twice when inserting a mag, the slide closed when I whacked it in. Both times it was with some new 10 round mags I just got.

I'm pretty darn sure no part of my hand was near the slide lock.

It's not terribly unsettling, as I can't see this being a 'stop using it' safety issue...I just don't like when my pistol does something I'm not controlling

Anyone else had this happen?

.

Glocks have a pretty light spring on the slide release. It's easy to lock them back with a lazy left thumb touching it when you are shooting. Don't slam the mag. in unless you are in a tactical mode. Another reason not to slam a magazine into a holstered firearm as some folks do.

Absolutely normal when you slam them hard. It happens to me all the time in combat reload. I do carry a Walther P99. Don't worry about it.

Well it is easy to see I'm a new Glock owner...I figured it was because of the mechanics the pistol uses to lock the slide open.

Good to hear my minor concerns are just that, minor.

Now, if you could make it happen every time you wanted it to, it would certainly have some advantages in competition....

Thanks all.....

as you said, don't expect it to do it every time, if you do, you'll get stumped the one time it doesn't. Once you're used to your gun, you'll know just by feel if the slide goes forward, if it doesn't follow up with a remedial action, either hit the slidelock lever or rack it and let it go. if it does go forward, continue shooting. My Tanfoglio doesn't do it, but all my other guns, Desert Eagle included, do.

The Grand Power pistols are designed to allow the slide to go forward and chamber a round when a loaded magazine is inserted. It works very well in club matches!

Dont assume that a round has been stripped from the mag and fed into the chamber, if the slide racks forward when inserting a mag always rack the slide to ensure you have the round chambered.

;) Soooo true....never assume....especially if it happends while you have to reload in the middle of a gunfight...:D
