Glock issues with slide staying open

Hey all,

I am having issues with my Glock and I am not sure what the issue is. I am using Remington umc ammo along with some bdx and when I rack the slide to load one in the chamber, it stays open like the clip is empty. If I release the slide, and shoot 1 round, it goes back to staying open.

Mods. I had a 3.5 connector which I took outlastweekend to put the stock one back in . I have grip tape also but it's stock. It just started happening today. I took it apart and wiped it down as it seemed to have had too much lube but it's still happening.

With no clip and I manually rack the slide repeatedly, it doesn't stay open all the time but out of 10 time, it will happen a few times.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the slide stop is gunked up or broken.

Anyway to confirm that? I don't see anything gunked up. I wiped it down but it's not a dirty gun to begin with

Have you taken the frame apart and inspected the slide stop? Does it happen on every magazine or just one particular magazine?

It was the slide release . It wasn't put back in properly, once it was reinstalled properly, good as new.

More accurately, the slide release spring was placed above the retaining bar as opposed to blow it and that's why you kept constant lock opens.

Exactly. That is something I would have totally missed if the gunsmith didn't see that issue.

how does your glock have too much lube?

You shouldn't be lubing anything other than the rails, disconnector/trigger bar area on the frame. Then on the slide, only on the barrel hood and rails, then the barrel.

I usually put some on the slide where I can see wear marks from the barrel when bring racked. I also put too much on the slide rails and it ends up getting messy. I have toned down the amount of lube I use now but I'd imagine it's still too much. Its a learning process for me.

Yeah, you shouldn't put any lube/oil on the slide rearward of the breech face. Too easy to get build up in striker/firing pin channel.

But I suppose that it's just a range gun, unlike mine which is my carry gun. I use pro shot grease syringe and put one tiny globs. The frame doesn't see a single drop of oil, and I dry brush and follow up with q tips and isopropyl alcohol.

Yes it is only my range gun so it's not as serious of an issue if I were to have a problem compared to you. I think I do need to take more care and pay more attention so it. I would like to use a syringe and do a post lube cleaning and will look more into that. I have been lubing based on videos I see on YouTube therefore I could already be starting on a wrong foot.

I'll take your advice and not lube rearward of the breech face and see if I notice a difference after a shooting session.
