I'm looking at getting a light/laser combo for a G17. The glock brand one is like $250, I was wondering if it's worth it compared to picking up a marstar oen for half that, or something similar.

There is no other device quite like a laser to show you just how shakey you really are.. Most folks I know had them mounted for about 2 weeks until the novelty wore off, then into the parts bin with them...
Use the $250 to buy ammo if u can..
Cheers

LOL I remember the face I did when I tried my first laser on a Glock .40.
it blew my I am getting good bubble when I saw the dot on the target. Even with a rest I sucked.
Actually now that I think of it. It might why I hate glock's so much
Get a 20 laser on ebay and duck tape it on your gun. See if you can find a air soft one maybe, dont invest in one that will last for ever cuz it wont stay on your gun 4 ever

I found dry fireing with a laser realy help me get a decent triger pull but now it sit's in a box collecting dust. As for a light, the only time I get to use it is either @ DVC or Wensday night at POCO & yes it does help me see the target.

I had a laser max internal guide rod laser in my Glock 17. I found it worked amazing. Everything I put the laser on went away as soon as I hit the trigger. A laser/light combo I would not like as poa/poi shifts as distances change. If you want a laser go with a laser max internal or railed laser system.

I did some homework on guide rod lasers and there are definately two camps, love em or hate em and the trend leans towards hate em. There were ALOT of people complaining about the rods cracking under wear and there were many complaints about over all durability. Personally I think they are a great idea and a good concept but would be hesitant to buy one because of the high price point

The whole laser on a pistol discussion is a can or worms you don't want to open, buy it for what it's worth. If you want one get one don't let the nae sayers sway you. As far as lights go I have two, I just got a Surefire X300 for my Glock 22RTF and love it, great light but it is a little pricey and requires two batteries. I also have a Fox Fury AWL-P light. These were designed with input from the US Navy, and are cheaper. They had some problems with reliability but they have apparently worked out their issues with the latest generation. I like the Fox Fury because it's very bright, water and mud proof and it is one (CR-123) battery versus two and is more compact then either the Surefire or Streamlight.

Fox fury has released a new light that has a laser incorporated into it that is fully adjustable. I will have a review up on line once I get it from the manufacturer, hopefully this coming week.

for just dry-firing, why not duct-tape one of those $5 laser pointers to the slide of the gun?

I purchased one (insight m6) a short time ago and have had it at the range twice, it is extremely helpful in learning to steady my grip and dry fire trigger pull and I will continue to use it until I feel my aim is more steady and trigger pull more fluid.

These devices were designed for a purpose that is currently illegal here in Canada; using your handgun as a self defense weapon. However as a training aid the laser is very useful and lets face it, for a short time anyway, it does have some serious cool factor.

I bought the NC star Laser from GP tactical for $65 dollars. Excellent for dry fire practice and entertaining the dog. At the range I find the laser useless. My groupings were far less acurate when I used the laser then when I used the gun sights. I will say the "cheap" laser held true after 500 rounds of 9mm.

The LaserMax internal laser I had on my Glock 17 did fail. The battery cover in the rear became damaged (recoil i believe did it) and caused a bad connection. I called them and they sent me a new cover right away with no questions asked. Installed the new cover and never had an issue again (6000+rounds with it on).
They are not needed much like anything you add to a gun but they make the experiance more enjoyable for the user. That is why I got it.

and they allow shooting after sunshine?

Maybe he wants the light on there for any circumstance.

imho, it Depends on your relationship with the owner of the range if your good to go with firing at night....or ......just before the sun goes down.

Don't bother commenting on the law side of things it's just my two cents:)

The Glock laser light is quite nice. You can adjust the point of aim for the laser easily. It's not blindingly bright but does a decent job. It's a good value for the money.

did I really comment on the law side of things?
has internet made you interpret any questions asked here as sarcasm? This was a legitimate question because my outdoor range won't allow it.
