So what's the trick to getting these damn floorplates off on factory 10 rounders?:mad:

I've got the armourers manual but it doesn't mention the tabs on the side of the mag body that lock the floorplate, just depressing the tab inside and sliding the base plate off.

I posted the same question a while back. What you need to do is: stick a punch through the bottom hole, squeeze the sides of the mag where the tabs are, and then use a bit of force to push the floor plate off. Don't worry you don't need to be gentile with these things, they can take it.
 
As u are well aware by now, the floorplates dont exactly slide off effortlessly. They do need some pressure to get them off. As you have the center tab depressed hold the mag at an angle so the flat side of the baseplate is facing down and at an angle that will allow the plate to move. You can apply solid downward pressure on the corner of the baseplate against a solid surface, and it will slide away. Do it once and you will understand how easy it will be for future, but the first time is a bugger..

Thanks for the tips guys. That's gotta be the most retarded design I've ever seen.:rolleyes:

I used a small c-clamp to compress the sides after I depressed the latch. Still had to force it.

manboy, nobody has followers in this country it seems. I may have to order from the place you suggested.

Will do. Trying some Plasticweld on the broken follower right now. If it works, bonus. Got an extended mag release to install too.
 
don't you dare put an extended mag release on there. learn past your handi-cap. it's you, not the gun. :) rack the slide every time, and train yourself out of fumbling for small levers that are different on every gun.

buy a 1911 if you want to tinker and be a mechanic.

(wooops, just realized i was on a rant about extended slide release when you said mag release)

leave your glock alone before you wreck it. the only thing a glock needs is new sights. which you have. wanna spend money on it? buy mags and ammo.
 
You don't NEED to futz around with C-clamps or anything of the sort; a small screwdriver that will fit through the locking-tab hole or the "armourer's tool" will pop the floorplate off in less time than it takes to describe. Just push the tool through the hole at an angle towards the front of the mag (this will tip the locking tab out of the way), then pry the floorplate off towards the front; once the floorplate is past the tabs on the mag body, everything pulls apart.

Tried that SDC, I'm not a noob, just new to Glocks.

Got one of those scope mounts coming too, so I can put my Aimpoint on.
 
If u really want to see a difference and you are an outdoor shooter. try the HiViz sights(light pipe). I just had the front originally and liked it so much, I did the rear as well. I was just on course in NV and they were right on. They just glowed even in moderate light and made target acquisition a snap.....

Then you can't be doing it right; I've had the armourer's course, I've worked on Glocks from the 26 up to the 18, and none of them were as difficult to strip down (including the mags) as you seem to imply.

Well then, I'm an incompetent liar I guess. Would you like me to send you a video?

In the factory 10 rd mags the floorplate latch thingy only depresses about 1/8-1/4 in. It very difficult to get an leverage on a scredriver or tool without it slipping out of the catch hole.

:D I see the problem. You need to push the tool FURTHER INTO THE MAG, tipping the inner (locking) floorplate completely out of the way. If you're doing it properly, you should be able to push the entire steel rod on the armourer's tool all the way into the mag, then pop the floorplate off.

aren't you supposed to break those tabs off or something? because the floor plate will hold the baseplate on by itself. the tabs aren't really needed?
