Glock Magwells?

I've never had one on a gun, but want to try one on my Glock34 MOS. Opinions on brand or model, or really if there are any for sale anywhere in Canada? Even the big US online Glock stores have few if any. Everything ZEV seems to be sold out and discontinued, and their website warns that their current models don't work with 10 round mags (WTF?). A couple Carver options, and Agency Arms small model, but very limited choices.

Any advice on where to get one in Canada?

I think most of these magwells, the ones large enough to make a difference anyhow, require an oversized mag baseplate.

Some magwells like the magpul will work with OEM base plates, but aren't large enough to provide any real speed advantage.

Wrt zev's warning, there are some double-stack Glock OEM 10 round mags where the whole bottom half of the mag is just an empty plastic spacer that I don't think accepts aftermarket base plates. This may be what Zev is referring to. I recently ordered 4 mags from Questar and 1 of the 4 mags was this false bottom type. Frickin useless for anything but an OEM gun.

I have +2 base pads on riveted 10/17 Glock mags, so I should be okay on length. Yes I am hoping to find a full size magwell, not a small one designed for concealed carry.

Try ordering the Zev one from Brownells then. The Zev unit is basically the standard that most ppl are using.

That is the first I have heard of the new hollow base Glock mags, that is interesting. Thankfully I have lots of the original length mags, in 10/10 and 10/17 versions.

Yeah, I was not too happy with Questar for sending me one mag that was not like the others. It's a Barney mag now. It weighs differently, different center of gravity. No good for training at all. A cheap pos that I should just throw away.

Avoid them if you can. They are garbage that Questar should not be selling randomly mixed in with nicer mags.

Of places that will ship to Canada, I've found Glockstore for a Carver Custom ($85 US) probably be close to $200 CDN in the end, or RockYerGlock has an Agency Arms concealed carry mini POS not worth putting it on for the little real estate it adds. In Canada already is the Dawson Ice at CRAFM for $130 + shipping and tax. Looks good, but it is a 2 piece design with replaceable polymer insert, which isn't available in Canada yet. The insert is $20 US, so probably $35-$40 here. I don't like the concept, so I'll go with the Carver of the two, but hoping to find another Canadian option first.

Re Glock mags:

From left to right:

1) Crappy
2) Adequate (and most common mag up here)
3) Good

Now these are .40 mags, but the same is true of 9mm Glock mags.

After being stiffed getting the mag on the left via mail order from Questar, I'm leery buying there again. This mag handles differently, feels different, and trains different than the 10/10 mags I mostly have, and 3 of the 4 mags from Questar were the full height 10/10 mags like the one in the middle.

I can't say I'm a fan and will never buy these hollow-base mags on purpose again. FWIW, the floorplate has a hole in it like a regular floorplate, but there's no spring loaded pluger there - it's hollow and the base plate looks to me glued on. I have no idea how you can even take these pieces of crap apart for clean them (?).

I think they are US-made mags - maybe they are Glock 19 mags converted to Glock 17? Dunno. But they are junk.

Is there an obvious difference with the funky one. That photo looks like they are virtually the same as the other two as far as fit in a G17.

Yes, there is an obvious seam about 1 inch up from the base of the mag where they have bonded a hollow base to a shorter mag body. The hollow base is non-magnetic and not steel reinforced. On the side of the mag are two rectangular holes where tabs from the bottom hollow part were locked into the upper mag body. On the bottom of the mag, there is no plunger in the baseplate hole.

They also don't say Austria anywhere on the mag, so likely USA made.

It should still work on a Gen 4, provided you aren't using any backatraps. And even if you are, it will work if you are willing to trim your backstrap.

At $24 - that's a creaming deal.

Ya maybe, but still polymer. Polymer can be awesome, but if fit is questionable, and cheap plastic, it probably won't last long. I think Carver Custom is still in the lead for now. Of course there are lots of others available in the US, just none that will ship to Canada, D'oh!

I mean more with the fit in a gun or magwell. To me they look like anywhere one would fit, they all should fit.

Yes, the crappy ones will fit in any OEM gun. The issue is that I don't think you can put on en extended mag base plate for use with a magwell, as there is no plunger assembly to lock it reliably in place.

Also, these mags are balanced differently and feel different during drills - weight is distributed differently than a 10/10 or 10/15 mag. They are too light on the bottom half and are just un-lined thin plastic. When I'm doing drills, I want every mag to feel the same to build muscle memory properly.

I'm running the Agency Arms one on my Gen4 G35. Its small but works fine.

Those crappy Glock mags are similar to what CZ does with their Tac Sport and Orange mags in .40.

It's because the base plates are wider so they fit too tightly with the magwell. You have 3 options. 1) Try and see if they fit (my mags and magwell play together with no issues) 2) Shave the sides of the magwell until they fit. 3) Shave the inside of the magwell until the mags will fit inside. I suppose aftermarket plates may also solve the issue but I've never explored the option.
