Hello fellow Gun Nutterz,

Im very torn and need your help. I recently sold my Gen 4 17 and I'm looking to purchase a smaller compact or sub compact Gen 4 19 or 26. I have yet to hold these models in my hand but I am confident I'd like both.

Does anyone have first hand experience with them? For just under $1000 with a CDN barrel I just want to make the right choice and I trust all of your direction!

OP you never quite get used to the barrel sticking out of the sub compacts. Get a compact, 19/23 because the barrel only sticks out a little and doesn't look bad.

Hey misanthropist, who chopped your grip? If you did it was it hard? Any tips you would like to share would be appreciated.

I don't see the point of G26/27 in Canada esp if you don't have 12/6. You cant carry it and you loose the compactness because of the longer barrel, and the grip with out the extensions is just uncomfortable.

G19 or 23 all the way. and personally I find the grips of them a little on a short side for a range gun.

The G26 is a riot - even with the slightly longer barrel! It definitely needs the magazine extensions, though. G19 is a lot of fun too, but the G26 is a pocket rocket! ;)

The previous owner cut it up, but it wouldn't be hard at all. If it were me I'd wrap electrical tape around the grip as a visual guide and cut with a dremel, then file to get it exactly how I wanted it.

One caveat: you will have to smooth out the magwell a little if you want trouble-free reloads, at least in my experience. I cleaned and smoothed mine a bit and it was definitely worthwhile.

I owned a glock 26, the barrel sticks way out and does not suit the gun well. A glock 19 would be a bit more balanced. As for the price you can buy one try it and if you do not care for it they are easy to sell.

misanthropist,

I think I may have read that thread. It would be great if someone created a stencil with the proper cut angle to avoid any mistakes. If yours is from the thread I a saw it looks awesome. Chopping a 17/22 to a 19/23 makes a lot of sense since used Glocks can be picked up for around $500.

aren't you the one who has/used to have a g29?

The extra length of the barrel plays zero part in overall ability to conceal. The grip is always the problem, not the slide/barrel. As for the grip length, its not the same feel as a full size but its more than enough to hang onto when firing.

yep I had one. First thing I did was got the grip extensions. Holding onto a 10mm with 2 fingers didn't seem like fun. It was just big enough to fit me. G29 is also bigger than 26/27.

Improved mag release button. Reversible. More ergonomic grip, better texture. Also I actually like the recoil spring assembly both of my gen4 G22 and 23 work just fine. It's nothing new tho - my G29 SF (gen3.5) had a dual recoil spring, and I'm pretty sure other compacts have it as well.

i've got a 26-4 , my first glock, it's great for it's intended purpose. holds well with 2 fingers[ as will anything ,including 45 hard ball, ask any bullseye shooter ] . 4" groups @ 25yds are not a prob , once i adapted to the trig. it seems to like any ammo , i'm useing berrys 147/ 4.1 of 231. with the fat factory sights, it's quick & follow up & trans are smooth. poi is poa 3 to 25 , my big prob was moving from a 1911 @ a crisp 3.5pds to the, seems to take forever. i've tried a -3 & the -4 [to me] is much smoother.
