First one I shot was a 22, before I knew how to properly use a trigger. My instructor ("still alive") put 3 rounds through the same hole with it so I was sold right there. Got rid of my sig 226 elite and bought a g35. I can hit 8" steel at 30 yards no problem. I'm clearly not an expert but with that kind of accuracy for a total newbie to handguns, and knowing people that have had the same glock for 20 years with zero modifications, it's a good bet you'll be happy with it.
.40 is a hard calibre to start with, and the 35 is a big gun, and I just picked up a 19 (9mm compact) that I'm looking forward to shooting as well. hopefully money doesn't get scarce cuz I want to keep them forever!
