I saw a retailer selling Glock 17 Gen4s with "Glock night sights" for one price, and "Trijicon night sights" for another price. Retailer was already closed for the day.

What's the difference? Glock website doesn't help.

Thanks

Onagoth, what IS the difference? is one glock's system, so they're not paying a royalty/fee?

Glock and Trij are two different brands, each using their own systems and materials to manufacture night sights. Glock makes night sights for their guns and sell them as options. Trij makes night sights for glock and sells them as aftermarket replacement sights.

AFAIK, they both use tritium. Trij does not own the only tritium manufacturing plant in the world, so I doubt glock pays a royalty fee to anyone when they make their night sights.

I'm not sure whether one is more enhanced than the other. For most shooters, there is no practical difference. Whether there is a difference in specifications, I'm not sure.

Thanks... what I've seen is that most Glocks with night sights specifically mention Trijicon, and this is even retailers selling new pistols- hence, my speculation that Glock is now trying to get in on the night sight market by offering its own sights.

Thanks again!

Actually, are the Trijicon sights METAL and if so are the Glock night sights?

I've read that the polymer Glock sights eventually show signs of holster wear.

I'm pretty sure glock night sights are metal, but they aren't new, glock has been making night sights for some time. My gun has OEM glock night sights and they are strong as any other.

I use it primarily for competition. My bladetech holster never makes contact with the sights so I don't have any wear on them. In fact, I have very little wear on my gun at all, its mostly from my serpa holster.

I can't comment on how fast a holster for CCW would wear the sights. Perhaps a tight leather holster could, but I doubt it.

EDIT: The front night sight is made of steel, I can't tell about the rear sight. I think so because the rear night sight is stamped similar to the other steel fixed sight configuration.

The biggest difference between the Glock and Trijicon night sights is the warranty.

I can't remember the exact numbers(took the armorers course a few weeks ago), but Glock has a longer warranty than Trijicon for sure. I think it's double(10 years vs 5 years).

Good to know....Do you have to have proof of purchase, or is the serial number good enough to verify if coverage still applies?

Trijicon warranty is for 12 years.

Tactical Ordnance is a Trijicon author ized repair centre. ww w.tacord.com You can just replace the vials and you are good to go!

here's a summary from a u.s. site called glockparts dot com:

WHICH NIGHT SIGHT SHOULD I CHOOSE?
WE CARRY SEVERAL TYPES, EACH OF WHICH HAVE THEIR OWN BENEFITS.

TRIJICON, MEPROLIGHT, AMERIGLO, TRUGLO, AND GLOCK.

•THE MOST POPULAR AND WIDELY USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THE TRIJICON NIGHT SIGHTS. THEY HAVE A FINER DOT THAN MOST AND A 12 YEAR WARRANTY. THEY NEED THE REAR SIGHT TOOL IN ORDER TO INSTALL THEM.
•THE MEPROLIGHT NIGHT SIGHTS ARE ALSO AN EXCELLENT CHOICE AT A LITTLE MORE COMPETITIVE PRICE POINT. THEY ARE MADE IN ISRAEL AND HAVE A LARGER DOT ON THEM. THE MEPROLIGHT ALSO NEED THE REAR SIGHT TOOL IN ORDER TO INSTALL THEM. THEY COME WITH A 12 YEAR WARRANTY.
•THE AMERIGLO NIGHT SIGHTS ARE AN EXCELLENT VALUE AND THEY COME WITH THE HEX WRENCH NEEDED TO INSTALL THEM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE REAR SIGHT TOOL AND DON'T HAVE AN ARMORER AVAILABLE, THE AMERIGLO SIGHTS ARE A GOOD CHOICE. THEY HAVE A 12YR WARRANTY.
•THE TRUGLO NIGHT SIGHTS ARE ANOTHER GOOD VALUE SIGHT THAT YOU CAN INSTALL YOURSELF, WITH ONLY A HEX WRENCH. THEY ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IN TRITIUM FOR TOTALLY DARK USE, THE FIBER OPTIC VERSION THAT USES AMBIENT LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE THE DOTS, OR THE COMBINATION TRITIUM/FIBER OPTIC COMBINATION (TFO). THE TFO IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE BECAUSE THEY WORK GREAT IN DAYLIGHT, DUSK, AND DARK. THE BRIGHTEST NIGHT SIGHT I HAVE EVER SEEN! THEY COME WITH A 90 DAY WARRANTY.
•THE GLOCK NIGHT SIGHTS ARE ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED BY MEPROLIGHT AND THE TRITIUM DOTS ARE SIMILAR TO THE MEPROLIGHT, BUT THE HOUSING IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. THE DOWNSIDE TO THE GLOCK NIGHT SIGHTS IS THE FRONT SIGHT. IT MUST BE CRIMPED ON. THIS MEANS THAT YOU WILL NEED THE FRONT CRIMP ON TOOL OR AN ARMORER TO INSTALL THEM. (WE CAN INSTALL THESE ALSO) IT NEEDS THE REAR SIGHT TOOL TO INSTALL THE REAR SIGHT. THEY COME WITH A 10 YR. WARRANTY.
•The XS SIGHT SYSTEM NIGHT SIGHTS ARE A GOOD CHOICE FOR THOSE SHOOTERS WHO WANT A QUICK FRONT SIGHT ACQUISITION. IT IS BASICALLY DOT THE 'I' SIGHT PICTURE. THEY ARE MANUFACTURED BY TRIJICON AND HAVE A 12 YEAR WARRANTY. THEY COME WITH EVERYTING YOU NEED TO INSTALL THEM ON YOUR GLOCK PISTOL. DOES NOT NEED A PUSH TOOL FOR THE REAR SIGHT

I had Meprolights on my Glock. I went to replace the vials and found that I had to replace the entire sight(front and back). I switched to Trijicons, because after tme the vials will dim, but I at least do not have to replace the entire sight...just the vial.

The various mfg will warranty them only when they go dark...not just dim. The half-life the of the vials - Trijicon - is 12 years. They will dim over time, to about half of their brightness in 12 years, but they will not be replaced unless they are totally dark. Same with all of the other mfgs.
