Hello CGN,

I have a few Glocks and I am looking to try some optics. Sadly, I do not have any of the MOS models so I am stuck with either paying $600+ for a slide or trying a dove tail plate. Does anyone have any experience with one of these plates?

I see there are a few Canadian dove tail options. I would be happy to support a Canadian company. I did a search for "Versa Tactical" and a few others to see if anyone has any experience with these dovetail plates but the search returned zero hits. Anyone try that plate? Are there any other options that have worked for you? Hoping to find some success stories that I can replicate.

As mentioned, I did do a search but could not find anything on point. If there is a thread already I would be grateful for the link.

Thank you.

I’ve used the Strike Industries GUM plate( Glock Universal Mount) in the past before I had my slide milled and it worked very well.
Another option is to order a stripped optic cut slide from Brownells in the USA and install an upper parts kit and barrel on your own, it’s not hard to do and if you have a G19 I’ve seen their slides on sale for as low as $99 US. For some reason they rarely put the G17 slides that low but they are still reasonably priced. I’ve ran one for a few years and they are quite reliable

You could also get it milled for an optic. Probably around $400 at Black Box? (for the milling and cerakote). I'd be tempted to go that route particularly if I had a few to play with.

No direct experience with that product, sorry, but it looks better than typical picatinny rail dovetail mounts: truenortharms.com/versa-tactical-glock-dovetail-optic-mounting-kit-with-sightsecure-optic-plate/

It looks like it should get the optic lower, reducing the leverage on the dovetail. That said, I'm not a fan of any of the dovetail-mount optic mount plates on reciprocating slides. The rear sight dovetail is simply not designed to handle the mass and leverage of an optic and mount.

For a Glock slide that isn't milled, the only option I'd consider would be the direct dovetail mount Leupold Deltapoint Micro red dot (but this option has its own compromises).

Milling the slide is definitely the way to go. However, before I get a slide milled, I wanted to make sure I want red dots on my pistols. I figured the best bet would be to try an optic with a reversible mounting option before getting a slide milled.

The Brownells may be an option as well. Does anyone have any experience with ordering a slide from Brownells or will a third party be required to do the import?

Don't think you'd be able to get a slide through without an importer. US retailers and CBSA agents are becoming more risk adverse. You could try IRG. They have several Glock slides on their US site and the fee is only $25usd, not the normal $200cdn.

About month ago I was able to get a S&W M&P slide from Numrich and other than the 3 week wait at CBSA it came through with no problem. If you want a barrel as well then another source would be needed as Numrich would not send any barrels.

I've converted both a G48 and G21 from irons only to a dedicated optic plate with new slides from Brownell's. The G48 is their generic in-house slide and the other an Alpha Shooting Sports for the G21 with a few more bells and whistles. Both came no issues in the fall of 2023, and both were significantly cheaper than if I sent the oem slides for custom work.

I'd definitely recommend this approach over the dovetail mounts and unless you are looking for something very unique not offered with a new slide, its a really good option over custom milling.
