I'm looking to thin out my pistol colection and go with on style of pistol in both 40 and 9mm. I have fired the glock but not the XD (dont know anyone who owns one). I'm looking for opinions from those who have shot both.

Thanks.

Shot both, own a couple Glocks. While the XD is a nice shooter, I wouldn't even consider it if it was between that and a Glock. Why buy the imitation when you can have the original.

My two cents...

Look at the new polymer pistols after 5 years of combat testing. The glocks has been there done that... So do you want looks, "feel" LOL, or street cred...

Why would anyone own a Glock? Plastic pistols may be ok for the police -- who have to carry the things around all day and weight becomes an issue, but let us talk about a real pistol -- the SIG Sauer or the Beretta, or the CZ or almost anything that is good quality and made of METAL!!

yyyyy,
Hey stop with the logic and common sense, its not required here. ;)

Griffiths,
Your post speaks volumes about your experience with firearms in general. Your distaste for polymer pistols is based on ignorance and/or lack of experience. Regardless of your opinion millions of polymer pistols are in use without issue. I find it a bit odd that all major brands now offer a polymer pistol. That must be because they're "not real firearms" like their steel/aluminum counterparts right??

I'd pick the Glock. Odds are definitely in your favour when you go with what's proven. I love my G17. My .22 conversion kit is in the mail so I will be loving it even more!

I'll save you the suspense, the XD series is pretty much a knock off of the glock. For not a whole lot less money, you sure are sacrificing on some things that come with the glock.

Admittedly, the trigger on the XD is a little more refined and I shot better with it, the Glock would still be my choice.

I'm an XD guy myself. Prefer the feel to the Glock and I think the mags are a better build as well. An extra safety on the grip as well.

My $0.02!

You'd be fine with either though.

You should definitely buy the gun that feels the best, but to me, the extra grip safety is a con.

PS... why not get two 9mm's the same, rather than parts and mags that arent interchangeable...?

Two is one, one is none...
