glock purchase

I'm currently debating wether I should buy a Glock 17 or Glock 22. I will be reloading so I don't know if that make a difference in what caliber to choose. Also I want to get something that my girlfriend can handle and enjoy shooting. She seemed to think that the G17 had quite a bit of snap to it when I tested it at Target Sports. Any tips would be greatly appreciated on my behalf aswell.

I just made a deal on a 22 myself. I have shot a glock before and I really liked the 40 for punch, stopping power, cheap to reload as well. We only have one local shop to buy from but he stocks 9mm and 40 cal all the time. The 22 fits good, my grouping on my first clip ever shot was actually impressive, 5 of my 10 shots touched each other. Can't wait to pick her up next weekend.
you people are retarded. Stopping power is a myth when discussing handguns. There is no guarantee regardless of calibre or bullet style that will effectively stop all threats all the time without fail. If you're concerned about "stopping power" run a shotgun or rifle for home defense. Then again, most on this site haven't the testicular fortitude or the mental capacity to have a firearm at the ready and the mindset to use it without first concerning themselves with ignorant laws and ATT's.
Shot placement determines the outcome, not calibre. Learn how to shoot and practice often. This boils down to quality training and thousands of rounds. That being said, get the G17. Cheaper in the long run and its the Glock with the longest track record.

DO you own a glock, if so give some personal experience then. I own a 22 and have shot a 17 and 19 as well. I like the 22, did not kick like I though it would, and prefer the ballistics over the 9mm.

I do own a Glock, three actually. The G 22 does have a rather soft RECOIL when compared to other .40 cal guns. However, the ever present belief in "stopping power" more appropriately known as terminal ballistics or terminal performance is not an exact science. Ballistics gelatin is a constant medium which is great for comparing one load to another. It is not an accurate representation of what is to be expected when using said round(s) against a living target. Shot placement, mental state and the potential for narcotics all play important roles in the effectiveness of any given hit.
What calibre, brand, style of projectile used is irrelevant. Only hits count and a miss is still a miss regardless of calibre. marksmanship is a skill that is harvested through professional training and repetition. It is not dependent on gear.

How about you throw on a level 1 vest, and then I'll let you pick whether you'd rather be shot by a .22 LR or a .40 cal...

And I still say G22, but 6 of one half a dozen of the other really.....I do like them both.

Actually I mentioned the "stopping power" phrase which I guess is a sore spot for some people. I am good with the gun but my wife and son do not get the range time I do so if something happens at home when I am not there..... I just have my preference is all.
