Glock shooting to the left.

First off, I am a newbie when it comes to handguns for sure! The first time I took my Glock (17) to the range I was well s**tty. the second time i went i went with a rcmp firearms instructor. my shooting was way more consistent and groups were actually decent. although ALL to the left. only when i aimed to the right did i hit the centre. the instructor shot the gun, a one toonie sized three group about a two inches also to the left. (15 yds) immediately gave me the gun back and said "yep its out"

What do I do? :confused:

It Has the white fixed sights.
 
Try focusing with your other eye....I couldn't figure out why 2 different 1911s were shooting off to one side, tried focusing on the sights with my left eye and BAM dead nuts on. Not a fun way to find out you're right handed and left eye dominant. Better and less expensive way....point at something with both eyes open, close one eye then the other - which ever is actually pointing at it is the dominant eye - when I point at something and close my left eye I'm pointing to the left.
 
definitely right eye dominant. rifles always been with right eye and shotgun I shoot with both.

tap the sight??? maybe I'm missing something. I can only imagine trying to move the front sight wouldn't result in breaking it off. and if the rear is moved to the right i think it would cause me to shoot more left. if the rear sight can be moved at all.
 
The rear sight can move. Tap it to the right about 1mm. It's tight in there but it does move. Use a blunt and soft punch of some sort, something like a wooden dowel and give it tap with a small hammer or something. I personally don't give a f what my guns look like so I use rocks or what ever is handy, it leaves marks but it shoots straight.
 
Ya my bad, I guess I over thought what way to move it. but I didn't realize that it is movable. Thanks

Humm, no.

Usually, fixed sight are dead on. It's not a gun problem but a shooter problem. First of all, dry fire a couple of time to get used to the trigger. Make sure you pull the trigger toward you and not sideways. Practice untill the gun doesn't move/jerk at all when you break the shot. Then, try with live ammo, your shots should be dead on target.
 
My glock 20, my beretta 90 two also shot left. Fixed are not really fixed, they just
aren't easily adjusted. You are not gonna hurt a damn thing either, at worst you might marr the edge of the sight with an off center blow with a punch made fro
a hard material, your not hitting it hard, more like how hard you'd knock on a door or smack your tv if the screens fuzzy.
 
The Glock has a different trigger press to it. the sights may be off but make sure that your trigger finger pad (the area use use to type with) is on the trigger. having your finger to far 'in' on the trigger can cause the gun to twist slightly to the left. A lot of people put to much finger into the trigger guard.

Try a brass casing drill. get a friend to help you out. Make sure the gun is empty, and choose an aim point on a wall that makes the gun level. Now, get your buddy to balance an empty piece of brass on teh front post of your glock. Do a nice smooth, slow, gentle trigger press. If all goes well the brass should stay on the front post. If it falls off, well, you dont have a smooth trigger press.

Give that a try and then see if you can get three or four trigger presses in a row without the brass falling off. Your buddy is going to have to reset (work the slide) of your glock after each trigger press.

Once you've determined beyond doubt that the fault lies with the sights and not the shooter, you can use either a brass or nylon punch to drift your rear sight to the right if you don't have a sight pusher.

The amount of adjustment required is (POI change/range)*sight radius, with all values in the same units. For example, if you want to move the POI 2" at 15 yards and your sight radius is 6", you would have to adjust your sight by:

2/(15*36)*6 = .022"
 
How does it shoot when you hold it sideways, like a Glock is supposed to be shot?

does it have the stock plastic fixed sights on it??

two things.

first, their fixed plastic sights are perhaps mounted a little dead-off center, nothing alarming, you even can get a quick look at the slot, both side gaps should be equal ,quite easy to see.

i own G22's ,G17's, G20, and all with their stock sights were a little off (one G17 2nd gen was actualy dead on-center).

glocks stock sights are defenatly cheapo,, and they're aware lots of peoples swapp them for quality sights,......no big deal there if it's the case.

off to the left,so move right just by small increment....otherwise, look at your technique.

I recently took the Black Badge course from an IPSC Grandmaster and when I was grouping to the left with my Glock he told me to move my right leg back a few inches and presto...hits were centered. Of course this is assuming you are a right handed shooter.

One more thing - try to keep both eyes open when you shoot and focus on the front sight and not the target, which will be blurred. As a "newbie" to shooting, you're probably experiencing a bit of muzzle climb from the recoil of the pistol, which will tend to place your shot up and to the left of the bullseye or Alpha zone a bit.:)
