I'm looking to purchase a glock pistol..

Im thinking a g19 or possibly a g26.

my question is, If i buy a one of the above, what would be required to switch between 9mm and .40?

I belive that with the g26 (9mm) I could purchase a .40 cal barrel and be able to shoot both calibers (of course not at the same time)... The 9mm magazines would work for .40 and visa-versa..

Is this true and would the same be true for the g19 (purchase a .40 barrel and be able to shoot both .40 and 9mm with out other modifications / parts)

Cheers,

Bruce

NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!
YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE!!!
The smaller breech face in the Glock 9mm slides will not accept the larger .40 cases.
Plus, even if you do swap in a complete .40 Glock slide and barrel on to a 9mm receiver, the older models of 9mm Glocks did NOT have the extra/stronger third pin, so those older frames are weaker, and would be marginal for use with the heavier recoiling .40 ammo.

With the .40 cal Glocks, you can drop in a 9mm caliber conversion barrel, add the 9mm magazines, or a .357 SIG, with the stock .40 mags,
but this is a one way street.

This is why I sold all my 9mm Glocks, and went to .40 Glocks ...
with 9 mm caliber conversion barrels.

No.

For what you want you would want to choose the .40 version (the 23 or 27). With the 23 and 27 you could shoot .40 out of the (aftermarket) barrel it came with, and you could shoot 9x19 and .357 out of (aftermarket) conversion barrels. For reliable function, you'll want proper magazines.

I absolutely agree 100%

hmm, not to hijack it too much, but would the same apply to a Beretta 90two - buy the .40 firearm plus a 9mm barrel and shoot either caliber?

You will need a 9mm CONVERSION barrel. A regular 9mm barrel will not work, because the breech face will be slightly smaller than a 40. A 9mm conversion barrel will have the correct breech face.

Thank you guys.....

What about for the G19.... Is there a similar (in size) .40 cal version... which I could then get the 9mm barrel for?

I convert my G22-.40 & my G27-.40 to 9mm often. A simple conversion bbl swap is all thats needed to function. If you want better reliability use 9mm mags & a 9mm extractor. You CANNOT go the other way, 9mm- .40!

Yup, as long as they are longer.....The little subcompacts wont swap to a fullsize, But the fullsize will go in the little ones.

thanks,

What about the ability (taking into account length of course) to use .40 mags (loaded with 9mm) in a 9mm and visa versa?

That never worked for me. I know some say it works, but I think it involved some tinkering with the feedlips. Of the guns I've owned the only that would reliably load and fire 9mm in a .40 mag was a Beretta.

thanks,
