Ok so i bought a new glock 17 gen 3, first range session not a single failure of any sort. Put only 20 rounds or so down so i could give it another cleaning. Second range session i put 30 in and noticed the slide wasnt locking back on the last shot. Today i go out and put 100 through it and 3 out of five mags the slide doesnt lock back during operation. It locks back always during a manual rack though. Also it was failing to feed almost every other round by the 100 mark. The rounds are going straight up which makes me think (in conjunction with the slide release not lifting) that the mags are no good.. Anyone else have this trouble.. i cant figure out why it holds open by hand and not under fire, also why its failing to feed.
 
Are the mags new? Also check your grip, you maybe hitting the slide release upon recoil, and make sure you have a firm grip and dont limp wrist it, or you will get the things you have gotten.
 
thanks gentleman,, the glock isnt my first choice of handguns but i want to get into idpa and this gun must rule the roost for a reason so i figured id make it work and ignore my own advice when buying a gun.
 
shoot the gun one handed, if it does not lock back, then check you mag springs.

It's a Glock!!! don't drink the water!!!! Buy a 1911!!!!! (sorry... all the Glock fan boys jump in on the 1911 threads so I had to... I tried to resist, but I couldn't, I'm not that strong)
 
Well to be honest im a beretta fan myself but being da/sa with a decocking safety its not a great competition style gun. I have huge mitts which is good for the beretta but i will have to find a better grip on this smaller frame glock

Maybe see if you can swap it for a Gen 4... the interchangable backstraps make it way more versatile for differing hand sizes...
 
You sure you're not riding the slide lock? I have a bad habit of doing this on my Glock and even worse on the Sig 226. Too used to riding the safety on my 1911.
 
I have a Gen 4 and the slide lock is easy to hold down, did it a couple times. Honestly the M&P 9 would be a great gun for your competitions, I like mine and it is my primary.

Scott, you might want to try a different brand of ammo. Remington 115gr probably doesn't have enough recoil to overcome the RSA to lock the slide back.

Perhaps but I use my Glock to shoot all the crappy ammo that won't shoot in my other guns, Remington being one of them.. but it's a Gen 4

I had to do the same. I bought the extended slide lock only to find out that I held it down more frequently than the factory one.
 
if the slide doesn't lock pretty sure it it would be you touching the slide lock during recoil. it doesn't take much, when I shoot Sigs it happens ALL the time. and quite often with my Beretta.
