As stated before, depends what you want to do with it, and what your preferences are. I ran a P14-45 years ago for IPSC. Had a bit of trigger work done on it, changed the springs to my preference, and never had a stoppage. Switched to a G17 when I went to Production, put in a G21 mag release, and never had a stoppage. Accuracy was better with the Para, but the G17 was accurate enough for IPSC. Trigger took a while to get used to, but you can get comfortable with almost anything reasonable if you practice enough. I sure found I was less tired at the end of a long match carrying a G17 with 5 mags loaded with 9mm than a Para with 5 mags of 45. Have been using a G34 for IDPA/CDPA for the past couple of years. Also no stoppages, and it's a tackdriver. I found the grip on the Para intially comfortable, but have since decided that I prefer a single-stack 1911, of which I now have a Kimber, so you may want to try out a Para first to see if the wider grip suits you. Glock is also pretty easy to take completely apart, if that makes a difference to you.
