Glock17 or M&P9

should be rounded down actually ahah

i just purchased a Glock 17 gen 3. First hand gun!

I know, I just didn't want to send $0.00 worth.

Congratulations on the Gen 3. It's a good pistol. When you get the chance, I suggest replacing those stock sights with Trijicon Night Sights if you haven't done so already. Makes a world of difference, and the three glowing dots in the dark are pretty cool.

I bought a M&P 9 range kit, $ for $ the M&P range kit was a better buy. Never shot a glock yet but I'm not disappointed with my purchase.

I went M&P as well but a Glock is on my list of must try, have to compare for myself. Trigger on the M&P was pretty crunchy out of the box but has smoothed out considerably after only a couple of hundred rounds and quite a bit of dry firing. If you can find a used one for a good price it would save you the trouble.

What I don't get is all the hate for the m&p. it's much more comfortable in the hand than any glock, anyone that says otherwise is kidding themselves, it's more ergonomic. Period. It has a large beaver tail, which helps control recoil better, even if you have a gen 4 glock with a rediculous beaver tail backstrap that isn't as good as m&p still. The m&p is cheaper. It fires underwater just as well ( actually better in just about every torture video I've seen, and not like I'd ever do that to one but it dismisses all those sand in the barrel and fire underwater bull$h@t arguements the glock mall ninjas always bring up). M&p has proven to be just as reliable, if not more reliable than gen 4 g17s. I constantly hear about g17 recoil spring issues, even with the factory replaced ones under warranty that are supposed to fix the problem. G17s have also been known to routinely throw brass back in your face due to the nature of the extractor. All this, combined with the higher price tag and god awful looks and ergonomics, begs the question- why even think about getting a glock?

I have the Glock 22 Gen 4 w/40-9 conversion, M&P 5" Pro Series and G19. The ergonomics of the M&P is way better than the Gen 4 G22 IMO. But, both are excellent guns and you can't go wrong with either. The M&P Carry & Range Kit is the best deal out there. If I had to pick one of the 3, I would go with the G19. Since the Glock has been around longer, Glock parts and more aftermarket parts that are easier to find.

While Glock parts maybe easier to find it really is moot if you have to order them. Apex makes a complete line of aftermarket parts for the M&P the provides virtually every variation of internal components one would want and all the sight manufactures makes sights for both guns so the old bromide that Glocks are better supported really doesn't hold up anymore.

As others have said both guns are excellent for what they are designed for. Both excel for playing IDPA, IPSC not so much for those who are mortals. Vogel isn't mortal. :>)

I tried M&P and it's a very nice pistol. However it's not really an upgrade over Glock in my opinion.
I can take my Glock apart completely in a few minutes using only the Glock tool. Replacing parts is also super easy.
Not so much on S&W. Aftermarket parts supply is great for Glock and You can turn into whatever you want.
I wouldn't mind to own M&P actually, but since I own 2 Glock pistols already I don't see one in the near future.

The glock has proven itself, the M&P is only out for a few years. The stock trigger on a M&P is ####, so by the time you upgrade, it's roughly equal money to a glock to more if you get someone else to do it. Gen 4 issues have been resolved for the most part and every once in a while a Gen 3 pops up for sale. And it's not like M&Ps did not have their own teething issues. All new products do. Oh and ditch that stupid mag disco off the M&P.

Other than that the M&P is a fine pistol, but why think about getting a glock? Despite your opinions on looks the functionality of a glock is near impossible to beat.

Well some prefer the grip angle of the 1911 vs the Luger angle found on the Glock. Too, the Glock is no more reliable than any other pistol and uf limp wristed is almost a certain jam. $28. for a Apex usb solves the trigger in the M&P as far as the gritty feeling is concerned and a $3.00 trigger spring will lighten the pull and you don't have to replace the sights on the M&P which is almost a mandatory item with the Glock. Both though are very good pistols and whichever you prefer will work for most applications. If you don't want a mag disconnect in the M&P buy a new one without this feature.

Nestor the M&P comes apart just as fast as the Glock and can be done exactly the same way. Turn the slide retaining leaver down and pull the trigger and off comes the slide or flip the little internal release arm and remove the slide without pulling the trigger.. Works both ways.

S&W quality and workmanship is light years behind any european gun maker.
I have had a mp9 and unfortunately it has a lot to be desired, it shoots yes, but Glock quality/finish/machining is A LOT better than S&W MP, period, those denying this fact are either fanboys or blind or never handled a Glock before.

So comparing a SW mp to a Glock, is almost the same as comparing a Remington 11-87 to a Beretta 390. Apples and Oranges.

He is not taking about take down, he is talking about replacing parts.
Two different things.

I see that you chose price over quality, clearly to you, as stated in this sentence, price came before ergonomics...
So, after the trigger job that you'll need in the POS trigger that the mp has, how much cheaper is the mp compared to the Glock?

I don't shoot glocks btw, I do not own any, I have shot a few and owned MP. So I am not a block fanboy or anything...but VS threads never go anywhere, there is always that person that chooses price over quality and it happens in every aspect of life.

Owned both Glock 17 gen 3 and gen 4 and the M&P9.
If I had to buy another 9mm I would get the M&P9.
M&P9 wins when it comes to the price and ergonomics.
