Ihave had a Gen2 Glock 22 for 8 years or so. I love it. The only time I have ever had any problems with it is when the wilson combat barrel is installed. Fails to feed all the time, and that's with one particular brand of ammo, but by changing the barrel, it's not a glock anymore, is it. Replace the factor barrel and it runs fine all day.
The ergonomics are great. The handle is angled slightly more, in order to keep the wrist high, combined with the low bore axis, causes the recoil to be more manageable than most. This is offset slightly by the lack of weight of the gun.
Fact of the matter is, there are more Glocks out there than pretty well any other gun, so when you hear about the jams and such at a rate of 2:1, well, you are probably still doing better than par. There is a reason law enforcement gravitates to that gun, and even is spite of the reports of "internet unreliability" with the model 22, (which applies to the Gen1 before they added the third pin) that's where many LEA's go, and if YOU think YOU do your homework before buying a gun, well, you see where I'm going.
Another knock against it is that many people don't want to wrap their heads around the plastic gun. I convinced a buddy to try the glock 22, and after buying one, he was raving on the shop floor at work. I also work with a guy that has a P/T job in a gunshop here in town. When he heard the first guy raving, he approached and it went:
1: Oh man, I love my Glock. Was out at the range........(singing praises)
2: I hate Glocks
1: Why?
2: Who makes a plastic slide and barrel? (remember, this guy WORKS at our local gunshop)
1: You are kidding me right? Have you ever held one?
2: Well, no....
1: Have you ever even SEEN ONE?
2: No...
Everyone:
No BS. Guy #1 is a member here. He can confirm this.
A simple case of "I can't wrap my head around a plastic gun so I'm gonna hate it."
If it doesn't fit you, cool. If you don't like it, cool too. If the plastic bothers you, or it's too light, fine but those are all opinions, and none of them keep it from being (one of) the most reliable pistol in the world.
Lastly, regards trigger pull, people have to keep in mind that that gun is designed to take parts from bins (and even other models), and with NO SMITHING, function flawlessly. That and many people don't know about the trigger reset function, to shoot it properly.
I will buy other pistols, but I will buy more Glocks first.
