Glocks not so great anymore?????

My G21 and G17 have gone bang everytime. Thousands of rounds. 1911 trigger is better but I think reliability in the Glock is much better. At least from what I have seen at IDPA night. Also changing the Glock trigger to the 3.5 lbs disconnect is great, doesn't make it a 1911 trigger but improves it greatly.

A lot of the negatives about the Glock and any other Police duty gun for that matter, is that they are mostly D/A. Guns like CZ, Beretta, 1911 go single once the hammer is cocked.

I like Glocks, but not as much as my CZ. Thats just my preference, because I like the smooth, short S/A once the hammer is cocked.

I think a Glock is the perfect gun for a cop who does'nt really practise too much, but needs a reliable gun in a hurry, and does'nt have to worry about a safety in the heat of the moment.

So very true.:) Truth be known, I have shot a few Glocks and I think they are reliable and accurate..... would have no problem owning one. But that trigger leaves something to be desired.

Have you tried one with the lighter connector and springs? I shot a stock G17 and the trigger sucked. Then I got to try a G34 with the modded trigger and it was excellent. Not quite as good as my worked over 1911, but vastly better than the stock one I tried and perfectly useable for anything I do. The Glock grips don't fit my hands particularly well, but a twin to that 34 might find its way into my safe one day.

While I love my 1911, if it was to be a carry gun, I would take a Glock in a heartbeat for the light weight, mag capacity and easy point-and-shoot operation in times of great stress.

+1
I recently tried a G34 with a modded trigger that felt really, really crisp and light.

A standard G17 trigger is alot more manageable than the average double action trigger on a S/A D/A system and once you get used to it, it's fine. Lots of IPSC production shooters are doing just fine with their G17/22. If you can get used to the trigger, it seems fine.

I do not own one but lots of people that I shoot with do and they work as well as anything else and better than most.

Ihave had a Gen2 Glock 22 for 8 years or so. I love it. The only time I have ever had any problems with it is when the wilson combat barrel is installed. Fails to feed all the time, and that's with one particular brand of ammo, but by changing the barrel, it's not a glock anymore, is it. Replace the factor barrel and it runs fine all day.

The ergonomics are great. The handle is angled slightly more, in order to keep the wrist high, combined with the low bore axis, causes the recoil to be more manageable than most. This is offset slightly by the lack of weight of the gun.

Fact of the matter is, there are more Glocks out there than pretty well any other gun, so when you hear about the jams and such at a rate of 2:1, well, you are probably still doing better than par. There is a reason law enforcement gravitates to that gun, and even is spite of the reports of "internet unreliability" with the model 22, (which applies to the Gen1 before they added the third pin) that's where many LEA's go, and if YOU think YOU do your homework before buying a gun, well, you see where I'm going.

Another knock against it is that many people don't want to wrap their heads around the plastic gun. I convinced a buddy to try the glock 22, and after buying one, he was raving on the shop floor at work. I also work with a guy that has a P/T job in a gunshop here in town. When he heard the first guy raving, he approached and it went:

1: Oh man, I love my Glock. Was out at the range........(singing praises)

2: I hate Glocks

1: Why?

2: Who makes a plastic slide and barrel? (remember, this guy WORKS at our local gunshop)

1: You are kidding me right? Have you ever held one?

2: Well, no....

1: Have you ever even SEEN ONE?

2: No...

Everyone: f:P:

No BS. Guy #1 is a member here. He can confirm this.

A simple case of "I can't wrap my head around a plastic gun so I'm gonna hate it."

If it doesn't fit you, cool. If you don't like it, cool too. If the plastic bothers you, or it's too light, fine but those are all opinions, and none of them keep it from being (one of) the most reliable pistol in the world.

Lastly, regards trigger pull, people have to keep in mind that that gun is designed to take parts from bins (and even other models), and with NO SMITHING, function flawlessly. That and many people don't know about the trigger reset function, to shoot it properly.

I will buy other pistols, but I will buy more Glocks first.

I've got an M&P that I'm in the process of abusing the hell out of and it loves it! Well over 1000rds in just a few months. I'm thinking of getting a G17 for a back up 9mm. I find the polygonal rifling to be a tad more accurate than the M&P, so it might even become my regular go-to gun. Of course I want to get another 1911 and something in steel like a Sig P226 in .40, or maybe a Beretta Vertec. Of course, any handgunner worth his salt has to have a CZ in the safe, too. lol

not to short shift the M&P at all as if i did not own glocks I would own an M&P.... but when you come and run 1000 rounds thru your gun in 2 days then you can say you have abused it.... especially if at night you just wipe it down and oil it.

I recently picked up a new G17 gen3 to see what all the hype was.
After nearly 1000rnds I've had zero FTF's and FTE's. The only mod is an extended mag release.
I'm getting used to the ergos and light weight and I've learned to shoot to reset. It's so easy to field strip and clean:)
This ones a keeper...and has a place in my cabinet with my steel pistols & revolvers.

G17, G20SF and G22 here. The G22 and G20SF were new when I bought them and no issues so far. The G17 I got well used, no issues either in the short time I've had it.

Glocks are like a Honda Civic, not much to look at, but they won't let you down.

If you want something that can give you fits, buy a higher end 1911. I've had a Kimber and a Les Baer that both took several hundred rounds before being "broken in" with no FTF's from then on. I still prefer 1911 style pistols over Glocks however, just personal preference.

I haven't shot the other Tupperware brand guns, but most look too "busy" for my liking.
The Glock has a plain,sleek look,IMO.
