Gloves or no Gloves

I switch between wearing gloves and not when firing. I guess its just to get used to wearing them in case I head to an outside range someday.

You should have made this a poll.

At work they brought in some style of mechanics glove. They must be cheap for my company to get them.

They have a rubberish type of palm covering that works well even covered in oil. Tight fit. Been meanin gto bring a pair home to try at the range.

One guy in my IDPA group uses gloves inside. Like the added grip that they provide.

With the exception of my bigger calibers, I do not wear gloves unless it's cold enough to warrant them. With the larger caliber HG I do indeed wear gloves all of the time. The gloves are nothing speacial, I am looking fort some quality shooting gloves (padded) though.

I wear thin leather gloves when I shoot, warm or cold, indoors or out.

It's mostly because my hands already look like this:

If I don't wear the gloves they end up looking and feeling much worse.

I use Atlas Gripper gloves for work and they provide good dexterity.
They come in regular and thermal(little thicker) and are cheap at the local hardware store.

Do you wear gloves to jerk off? No? The reason you don't is the same reason not to while shooting.

Ok..... but after having gone prone in a hurry during a TR course I have had to peel a VERY hot piece of 5.56 brass from the palm of my hand that left a toonie sized blister 3/4" high. Gloves are highly recommended... especially if you are doing courses with volume shooting!

Regards,

A nice thin, tight-fitting leather glove is what I wear usually...I will shoot either way though just to mix it up.

If you want seriously better grip and still excellent dexterity, think about latex surgical gloves. They also work very well for loading magazines, great grip and your hands stay clean.

If you are one of the guys that prefer more lube (as opposed to shooters that prefer a 'dryer' experience), and you use petroleum based (and petro-based synthetic) lube, nitrile gloves will not deteriorate when exposed to the oils; however the grip isn't quite as 'sticky'.

Want to draw stares at the range?
Bring your pistol and loaded mags in vacuum-sealed baggies, , then 'glove-up' before you open the pistol case and ammo box, slit open the baggies, shoot and carefully police-up your brass, then leave hastily. They'll remember you for a long time.

Do I wear gloves to wank? Why would you even ask that?

Sometimes. Soft deerskin or suede is nice (keep it dry) and latex gloves with lots of lube is good too. Of course when I'm handling firearms, what I want is a really good grip, when I wank the exact opposite is generally my desire, so the analogy is a bit flawed, for me anyway.

Another use for gloves. Besides all mentioned. They simulate loss of fine motor skills. It is good to manipulate your firearms with gloves on to see where you weaknesses would be in a panic.

unless you have a medical condition, why wear gloves? You see the odd guy wearing gloves on the range. You lose a ton of dexterity.

I wear 'em in an indoor range - just because I perceive that they expose me to less lead - if I need to rub my eyes or nose, I take the gloves off...
whether it actually matter... ?

I disagree, I find I shoot just as well or better wearing gloves. In the winter they are a must, plus I use them at outdoor ranges that dont have running water as it keeps the lead off my hands.

Ok, they told me in the army that glove works like a buffer between your hand and the rifle and as such softens the puls on your hand, thus improving your aim. It made sense then, but perhaps it was just BS and they simply did not want us to take the gloves off and lose them. Now when I think about it - we not have any gloves in summer and noone complain about bad aim..
