Good point these radios are able to use many frequencies so as said do not walk over government users. You can also scramble your frequencies.
I bought a mic, car charger, and extra battery for a SHTF scenario as when we had the floods cell access was hit and go. When I am on road trips I have a frequency list for the road departments as we also got stuck in the mountains due to flooding near Fernie and the radio allows for individuals to monitor whats going however Police use frequency hopping.
