I've been following Bear's Gun Room on Facebook for a while now. They always seem to have amazing gun prices, that any Canadian gunny would find unfathomable. But it's real! Too bad they are in the Pennsylvania, USA.
As Canadians I feel that we are preyed upon by gun dealers here. For the fact that our gun ownership is not based on "Rights" as in the US, we Canadians fall into the "It's a Privilege" class of citizenry, and with that mentality, dealers, and even resellers pass the burden of inflation down the food chain when we go to sell/buy used firearms. Hell, for example, I could buy 3 Glock 19 Gen 3's in the States for the price of 1 here in Canada, and thats even with the currency exchange! Anyhow, this is not a rant, or a battle cry, just food for thought.

Here are just a few screen shots from Bear's FB page (notice the prices):

This Glock 19 Gen 4 with the MOS, which you can't even get in Canada yet (because Gen4 suppressor barrels are not factory accessible to us), but you can get the it in other models 17, 22, 34 exc. Sells for over $1100 + Tax Retail in Canada!

Our dealers do the best they can do for us considering taxes, import fees, and exchange rate. If anyone is "preying on us" it's our government.
 
While it's not always feasible for importing from other sources, I appreciate being able to shop through shops like irunguns.

100% true. Tiny market, poor dollar... there's not much profit on guns and ammo
 
I doubt we are "preyed" on by the Canadian dealers...between all the bs from the government and the very weak buying power of our minute market...seems likely where it should be.

Might as well complain about the lack of choice in cookies and cereal between the US and Canada too...we get left behind in so many ways because of our languages for packaging and our laws, our numbers, and our dollar.

Why is that? I have never understood why people pay so much for a used gun when for 50 bucks more they can get a new one with warranty. If guns depreciated here like in the states my collection would be way bigger

New guns are cheap and the used market has way more supply. I agree, my collection would be bigger if I lived down south.
 
OP should try importing some of these good deals and tell us what they cost to get them in his hands... Import/Export permits, brokerage fees, taxes, exchange rates... you know, all those things Canadian dealers gouge us with.
 
I'm looking at bringing something in from the States, by the time it arrives at my door I anticipate it being 75% more in cost, than the initial purchase price.

It's not all wine and roses south of the border. Especially on the surplus market, a lot of guns cost FAR more down there than up here.

Here's a couple quick screen grabs I took just now from Gun Broker. These prices are fairly typical in the US for these particular guns:

And when you factor in the exchange rate, we get some guns for incredible value (think of the Turkish shotgun and pistol imports).

Our dealers aren't screwing us. They're just trying to make a buck in a tough market. The market is tougher up here because it's smaller, and more heavily regulated. Regulation costs the end consumer $$.

Here's a fun fact:

The RCMP and CBSA love playing a little game where they hold shipments of firearms and ammo for "inspection" before releasing them to the distributor. These holds can last for days, or weeks (sometimes months, but usually not), and it is on the importer to pay a storage fee the entire time the shipment is awaiting inspection. For a SeaCan, this storage fee amounts to hundreds of dollars a day.

Nice racket. But it isn't the dealers who profit from it.
 
From my experience run of the mill modern guns that are still in production are cheaper in the US. When you get into older and collectible stuff we have great deals (by US standards) here in Canada.
