Where can I go gofer hunting around Edmonton. I am a very responsible hunter. I grew up on a farm in Nova Scotia, and I would like to help farmers or others with their gofer problems. Besides I have a Savage 17 hmr ready to shoot about a 1000 gofers, give or take.....
Thanks,
wcmd.

get yourself a county map, don't wear camo and politely ask landowners for permission like everyone else

it's gopher- what you're spelling is too close to GOLFER - and there's lots of those around edmonton too

Seems to me that the wildlife management unit (248) which Edmonton is in does not allow the use of any rifles in it. You may want to contact the Edmonton office of Sustainable Resources (check the phone directory under Govt of Alberta) - to clarify if you still can use your Savage 17 HMR. There was a case of someone getting arrested last year for using a rifle to go gopher hunting. Better to be ok rather than sorry.

You have to be west of Mink Lake Rd in Parkland County (west of Edmonton) for rifles, and Strathcona County doesn't allow them at all. Once you're outside these areas, you're good to go. Knock on farmer's doors and ask permission. Personally, I go west to Evansberg and east to Two Hills mostly. - dan
