I'm going completely crazy trying to select a bullet that will be good for hunting and some long range shooting out to 800 yards. Been doing so much research that I think I over loaded my brain. So I was thinking of using a 210 vld Berger match hunting bullet. but after reading a bunch of posts of mixed feelings on them I started to research other bullets and can't make up my mind. Can anybody help me out. It will be a .300 win mag with a 1:11 twist barrel. Any help would be appreciated.

These look promising. Hopefully they will be available soon.

They are suppose to be out in march I believe.
I would pick any decent hunting bullet that's cheaper. Then you can practice more for less. Any bullet should get you to 800 in a win mag. Sierras usually aren't too hard to get to shoot but I have never tried them on game. Depends on what you're hunting but the game kings might be a decent trade off if you find the bergers too finicky

Why not two different loads/bullets and record the info to move sights from one to the other. A couple test shots after that and you should be fine.

I have never hunted at 800 yards. Have done lots of target shooting at that distance.

Longest hunting shot I saw was 425 yards with a 308Win. The bullet did not expand at all. Could have been reloaded and shot again. (Norma 180SP).

The challenge would be to have a soft enough nose to expand. But if it expanded at reduced velocity the penetration would be very poor.

A Nosler partition would have a soft nose section.

Check out the matrix bullets, I'm pretty sure they are a bonded VLD style bullet. I do remember reading somewhere that they aren't quite as tough as an accubond however. Contact Matrix and see what they say.
I plan on using them in my 243AI when I get it built.

What is the scirocco 2 like as far as terminal performance and long range accuracy? I have been wanting to try that one for a while now, just haven't got to it yet. Matrix bullets are first on my list of different bullets to try as they are Canadian.

I used them(Swift SciroccoII) quite a bit in a .300 WinMag I used to own. The furthest kill I had was 455m on a decent WT buck and doe. They worked very well on game and fly well too. I would make the Scirocco my 1st choise as a dedicated hunting bullet from my experiences with it.
