Going price for an M1 Carbine?

I'm not doubting you paid $350, but how long ago was that? The Irwin pedersen is rare but not everyone wants one as it was never accepted by the US military.

Out west M1 carbines are hard to come by. The only one that I have seen around lately for sale is at Milarm. It has a paratrooper stock (repo) and is a Plainsfield receiver (post WWII and not USGI) and they are asking $800.

So let me ask you this? If you had an M1 carbine you wanted to sell? Would you sell it for $350 bucks?

well irwin pedersen made approx 2700 rifles and yes NONE were accepted UNTILL their contract was taken over by S'G" who then sold the assembled irwin pedersen rifles to the us gov and assembled many more from irwin pedersen parts

so the IP is the rarest of the m1 carbines

and i got this one 2 years ago I have 3 irwin pedersen m1 carbines....

Don't listen to contact148. He's obviously the exception to the rules. I've seen a few real gunnutz over the years but never a M1 carbine insane nutz like him. :)

If you go by the number Larry Ruth states in the book 'War Baby' they actually produced 3,542 carbines. Again not one of them was accepted by the US Army because of quality issues. I agree they are the rarest of M1 carbines and if you are into collecting rare guns, great. Personally I like to shoot mine and if it wasn't good enough for the US Army, it isn't something that I would want no matter how rare. I'm not even sure that you can call them Milsurps, as the army never owned them.

We both obviously know lots of history of the carbine and I think we are getting off track here from the original point of the thread.

Let me ask you (again). If you had to sell one of your carbines, whether it be the IP you bought a few years ago, or any other one you own, would you let it go for $350 bucks? And if not how much would you ask if you decided to sell it. (and when I mean others I mean USGI and not post war stuff)

I mean no disrepect to you and your collection of carbines Contact, but I think we are just trying to establish the price of an M1 carbine in today's market.

Rock-Ola started producing M1 Carbines in November 1942 & stopped production May 31 1944 . Of the 60 odd components of a M1 Carbine IBM & Quality Hardware made all but two for their carbines. Saginaw Steering made 24 parts,Underwood 19, Winchester 18, Rock-Ola 13,Inland, National Postal Meter, and Standard Products 4 each. The remainder of the components were produced by a great many subcontractors

well see i never sell ONLY buy m1 carbines
lastone i bought was $150.00 for a mixmaster inland..... 3 weeks ago. before that was a plainfield for $120.00 which will be for my kids use

as i shoot but dont want to abuse the usgi ones

the real problem with the .30 carbine these days is ammo yes you can reload but the brass is a PITA to aquire now

but selling average for most of them is probably $400.-500 $$$

Lets face it, 99.99% of all M1 Carbines went through the REFURB Process.
Mixmasters. They sure as helll are not all matching K98's, therefore don't pay too much,
Otherwise You Fail.

If your looking for brass, I can make it a point of saving mine and sending it to you if your willing to pay the shipping. I only shoot factory ammo, usually PMC or Winchester and I usually just toss the brass. Depending on the year I might fire of a couple of hundred rounds and getting ammo here does not seem to be that much of a problem.

50 round box Winchester soft point and 50 round military surplus fmj went with the one I sold.

Note the following is anecdotal - I was told that someone (I forget who now) is coming out with a pistol that sues .30 carbine cartridges. Dunno why or even if it's true but it would likely mean more .30 carb ammo production.

Sorry Shooter I don't. I was only out twice to the rifle range this summer and I didn't keep any of it. A buddy of mine shoots .30 carbine as well and he tossed all of his. I didn't realize that there was a bit of a demand for the brass out there. I will make it a point of keeping it in the future.

Depending on the next time I get out, I should be able to have some if somebody wants it. I currently have about 300 rounds of factory ammo just waiting to shoot and like I said it doesn't seem to be a huge problem getting it given the number of gun shops in town.

ill take you up on that offer!

brass and .30 carbine ammo is scrarce in my neck of ontario!

I reload and have a good supply but no matter how hard i look i allways lose several pieces of brass each trip!

they also get dammaged sometimes when ejected

Hey contact where in Ontario are you, I have no trouble finding .30 carbine what so ever. Bass Pro Shops in Vaughn sell the Remington UMC, Al Simmons in Hamilton sells Priva Partizan led tiped, and I often get seller&bellot at wolfs den in Angus.

just east of toronto

its around but i wont pay $30.00 for 50

i finished the last of the 10K or so surplus stuff i got from marstar a few years back it was non reloadable through

I picked up 6 boxes of S&B at ProLine In Calgary for $25each. I find the availability patchy at best in Southern AB. Stock up whenever I can...y'know...for when the zombies arise. :)

M1 Carbine prices...I find in Western Canada, prices are all over the map, especially in Calgary. The cheapest one I paid for was $300 (Underwood) with 2 mags, and about 9 mos ago I picked up a Winchester for $500. At the large gun show at the Big4 this year there were a couple of Rockola's from $700 to $800.

I guess it depends on how bad you want an M1 carbine and what make. I'd aim for the $600 range price wise for a Winchester or post war Plainsfield.

If you want a new one...these are pretty sweet...dunno if anyone is brining them into Canada....check it out.
