Going price for Valmet M78/83s

If it helps, a M78 .308 with M78/83s type wood stock, correct type original M78/83s type Mauser scope, mount and no mag is on Gunbroker asking $5,800 US at the moment. So few change hands it hard to place actual market above regular M78 in Canada.
Just saw that today, contacted irunguns �� just doing research into if it’s the legal variant allowed for import. Also if you scroll down, it comes with 2 magazines & mint condition everything. It was a safe queen for 30+ years only test fired.
Ends up costing about 7900$CAD+about 1500CAD in import fees/dutys
Been wanting one for so long, that ones mint. I feel like a mint or near mint condition with original wood fixings is a little more rare than its polymer counterpart aswell.
They are an odd bird, and are worth what the markets willing to pay at the time.
There’s one listed for 7500 currently that’s been up awhile and hasn’t sold. Armandgun has his listed for 18,000$ and it’s beautiful but I don’t think the market sees it worth 18k currently. Economy is in shambles.

I may be off base here but the one on Gunbroker is missing the M78/83s engraving your would expect to see so it is possible it had the /83s bits added at aftermarket at home by a consumer not the original US distributor. Some people did that to fancy up their M78 back in the day I was told. All of the M78/83s we see left Finland as regular (Canada OK) stamped M78 and it was the US distributor that added the Mauser red dot scope, mount, stock bling plus the additional name engraving in silver through the parkerizing. 83s configuration was a US distributor marketing invention to get a few extra $.
I believe youre correct, the 83s was just a modification title given to 78’s via part additions. The one at auction is like-for-like with armandguns on ####### currently.
They both still shoot .308, with the same base
US prices are irrelevant to Canada. Two completely different markets.
IF you can find a Valmet listed for sale in Canada, it will prob be in the $10k to $15k range. It is simply a supply and demand equation. Demand far exceeds supply.

People just love to add fancy buzz words to their ads in order to catch the eye of less knoeledgable people. Some real unicorns would be semi auto Franchi LF-57s, Phoenix BXPs or FN CALs. There are hundreds of Valmets in the country. Sought after? Yes. Uncommon? Yes. Unicorns? Absolutely not.
CSC has a Milkor/ Phoenix BXP 9mm carbine for 4999.00$ right now
I had one 15 years ago sold it for 1200$ could give a crap less if I could of got more $$$$ now, these were the biggest POS ever had 4 mags with it and none worked, would not feed and mag would drop out at random, never got off 5 shots in a row, it was a great single shot MAC 10, good riddance, there are unicorns, but are they really unicorns if they don't function?????

You can always replace money, but you can't replace a firearm that is no longer for sale

Miss my X39 Valmets too, but it was pretty hard to justify keeping them, given the prices and the fact that they were functionally no better than (and in fact not as good as) my Cz858s. Of course those 858s can't go anywhere now...
This right here is the whole reason why I got rid of them. Sold 1 to fund a 9mm UMP. Which I sorely miss aswell
