Going Sako

The Sako A7 would not have the same ejection problems that the 85 has in the medium length action since it has a plunger type ejector in the bolt face. The A7 is listed at $1100 with a Burris 3-9x scope at Al Flahertys (A CGN sponsor)

I have a sako bavarian in 6.55 X 55. that is a long action and with the sako mounts I have not hit the scope on ejection in 120 rounds fired..did I get lucky?

Not familiar with the new 3 lug bolt models, but if you want real quality go back to the L series through the A V, these rifles are timeless quality and most are stunning in their wood selection. These are the firearms that pop into my mental picture when someone says Sako. These are some of the finest rifles ever built and are still a bargain for the prices being asked.

This is an A IV model Safari with upgraded wood

This is an L61R in 375 Wby (I rechambered from H&H) with a factory stock....

I also have a little full stock AV in 308 but don't seem to have any pics of it.

It could be "luck" but I'm also wondering (since reports of the issue in the medium action are inconsistent) if perhaps a change was made in the choice of factory extractor spring after some complaints? I don't know but it seems like many people experienced it and others didn't. If the non-offending rifles like yours were of a later manufacture date, it's possible some change(s) occurred. This is why I discuss this topic continually, to try and flesh it out. Glad yours works as it should! Nice looking rifle.

Very nice. I always keep my eyes out for these and hope for one down the road.

L461 - 222 remington
AIII - 222 Remington
AII - 22-250

Paid 2100 for all three with bases and rings……..

Thanks. It was in the last couple years. Got the AII and AIII in a package. The AIII had a nice Balvar on it which was sold. I then sold the AIII 222 (which I want to kick myself in the ass for) and it paid for the AII 22-250….... Always have to keep your eyes and ears open for deal and they come.

Pulled the trigger today and welcomed a Sako 75 stainless synthetic in 308. It's seen some use, but still in good shape. Eventually it may be rebarrelled to 338 Federal or 358 Winchester, given a new stock, Cerakoted, etc. For now, I'll just use it as is!

I suspect it won't be the last ...

Congrats and exc.choice.
Love 75's have 300wsm and wouldnt change for any other rifle.
They have a little kick to it but when get used to it you will enjoy hunting with it.
When i "burn" my bore, probably will rechamber to 325wsm but i hope it wont be soon...

Absolutely, the 75-series is superior in build and feel to the 85's, and the A- and L-series guns are the best of all.

sharp shooter, I think you have the numbers turned around a bit. The .222-chambered guns are AI's, not AIII's. The .22-250's are indeed AII's. The AIII's are chambered in .243, .308., etc.

I've owned two 75 Finnlight's , one 85 Finnlight and 1 A7. I had ejection issues with the A7 in the short action....the ejection issue isn't only a problem in the long actions. There is no way of knowing you will have an issue till you purchase the rifle and mount a scope on it. Its a role of the dice....on a pricey rifle.

Cheers!!

Yes, my bad. Wish I never sold that A1. It was the sweetest little thing…...

Have been mulling over this for quite some time, but after handling rifles again tonight at my local gun shop I've made the decision to clear out my gun cabinet and purchase a Sako 85/Finnlight. I'll have to sell a BLR and an X-Bolt to do it (and possibly a BPS as well), but at the end of the day I just couldn't get past how solid, dependable, and well built the Sakos I have handled over the past year or so have been.

The only question is whether or not I should jump on the deal at my local gun shop (stainless synthetic 85 in 30-06 for $1500) or look for a short action. The scope ejection issue I've seen referenced would lead me to lean in the short action direction, but ordering a new 85/Finnlight in a short action is $1900 plus.

What I'm really worried about is "Sako creep" Namely, I'll want to add more and my bank account/VISA will seriously suffer ... ;)

Welcome to the family!!! :) If you come across a 30-378 Weatherby, don't hold back :)

I have a 6.5x55 in 85 hunter and have about 150 rnds down the pipe and I have not had one issue of any kind. For factory loads I found I can get .5 moa with federal fusion
