I cross the border every Jan1 for a 4 month stay in Florida. I present my passport and my wife's. I tell them I have firearms and present the form 6 along with my Alaskan hunting licence. Only once was I sent inside, and when I got there the guy asked me why I was sent in. He said primary inspection is supposed to handle firearms. Most inspections take less than 30 seconds.
Coming back, I always declare my firearms. I am NEVER asked. They want to see your PAL and the reg certificates. Usually if you tell them about the firearms, they forget the questions about booze cigarettes and anything to declare. Again, 30 seconds tops.
