going to buy a 1911 within the next few days. looking for your opinions

Please don't get either as your first handgun. There are many really good 9mm platforms designed specifically for the round. Glocks, M&P9, Walther, HK, SIGs etc. The 1911 is a .45 ACP platform and is best with that round. There are many mag related issues with proper feeding of 9mms in the 1911. I'm not saying all 1911 9mms are finicky but for your first 9mm, let's have a good experience shall we?
 
I'm not sure what the Kimber hate is all about but I have one and I know several other Kimber shooters and they are great guns. Expensive? Mine wasn't. $1050.00 for a Custom Target Two.

its a gift from my father. he wants to buy me one of those two (those are the two that he likes.... i also like them but i would probably buy an STI for myself later down the road) so he can come with me as a guest to the range.

i believe my gun will be shipped via canada post. what happens if i am not home to accept delivery and the package goes to my local post office? do i need to apply for an STATT to transport it from the post office to my home?
