Dan Wessons aren't really customs, but they are as close as you will get to custom quality in a production 1911. They are often referred to as semi-custom guns. A DW Valor will cost you around $2K from forum sponsor Freedom Ventures and is worth every penny. If you want a well built gun that shoots like a dream and is way more accurate than you will ever be, then you might want to save yourself $1500 or so and skip the customs and get a DW Valor.

However, if you don't mind spending the extra cash and really want to own a full-house custom, then I would recommend getting a Wilson. All of the brands you list are great guns and you can't really go wrong with any of them. But that said, P&D is the official Canadian importer/distributor and warranty service provider for Wilson Combat. Warranty issues with Baer or Brown might not be quite so straightforward to get resolved, should they crop up...

If it was me, I'd go with the Valor and not give it a second thought. The extra money would go into reloading equipment. If I had money to burn, I'd probably go with a nice Ed Brown Special Forces. The fit and finish on a Brown are second to none and if I had so much disposable income that I was considering a custom, I guess I probably wouldn't worry about warranty... ;)

Fusion Firearms (he was responsible for the Dan Wesson 1911's... now started his own company).

Yes; but honestly, that was when Dan Wesson guns sucked ass and before CZ USA bought the company and turned it around. ;) That said, Fusion does seem to have a decent reputation in the 1911 marketplace down south.

I voted Wilson Combat.

Just because that's what I'd buy.

However, so far, this is as close as I've come, though.....

Wilson grips bought off of the EE..... :D

I shot a Wilson CQB abit, it was nice, but I just didnt see the value. Not saying it wasnt a good gun. I think part of the reason of getting as custom is something different either in the detailing, machining or finishing. Otherwise all your buying is really pricey stock looking gun.

I have a Wilson CQB and a Dan Wesson PM7. Both are very accurate and reliable and I've been extremely happy with them. I'm of the opinion that Dan Wesson 1911's offer very good value for the money for a production handgun. If you still want to go the custom route I don't think you'd be doing yourself any disservice by choosing a Wilson, Brown or Baer. FWIW, you may also want to check out a Dlask 1911....

I totally agree with USP. all in the list is nothing more but high end stock gun. a custom made gun is something they build for your spec, use up the parts and finish that you want for your gun and there will be only one. otherwise what you pay for is just a high end production gun. If you really want somthing different, you can buy parts and flame from different source up to your liking and have a 1911 gunsmith put them together, that is a real custom gun.

My vote goes to Les Baer. The fit and finish is unsurpassed. Something about the look of a Les Baer is also very cool. I picked up an SRP and it's now my nicest 1911 in my collection (other then my classic Colts). :)
