Just got drawn for a party of 6 moose hunt in the Matane wildlife reserve! I've been there once before in 2006. Between 4 of us we saw 37 animals in the 18 hours we hunted (72 man hours). And this with less than ideal weather: 20 degree celsius highs. The average success rate for the entire park is 95%.

I can't freaking wait!

Matane

Hi,

Matane is really a spot I would love to go back.

I was there in 2006 and collected this fine specimen.

We were after a huge one but the weather was changing rapidly and for those of you who have been there, it can turn ugly quite fast and you may come back empty handed and pretty shy too.....

Haha, you'll have fun I guarantee!!! Working there from time to time, father been working there for 25 years and counting! Only one thing to say : 4 moose by square kilometer.... But you still might come back empty handed! Anything you'd like to know, just ask me. Play it by the rules, and have a blast!!

BB,

When and where? We were in sector 18 from the 14th-18th of September. We were almost one of the shy group. With the weather hitting as high as 23 degrees during the day, the moose were only moving a total of about an hour during legal light (30 minutes each morning / evening). I let 2 bulls go that came out of the woods and onto the road about 50 yards in front of me on the 2nd morning. Ended on the last full day by me taking a female. Everyone tells you "Ooooh - Matane. Don't shoot the first one you see..." Screw that - if it's anywhere decent, I'm shooting it this time.

The whole trip was kind of surreal: Leave Montreal at 11pm night before to arrive at the front gate for 8:30. Drive another 40 km's to the camp. Eat lunch, go hunting. By the end of that day I was a zombie. Add to this all of the moose wandering around and I had to pinch myself a few times.

Lucky you looch! I've been applying for the last 14 year's and the closest i got was 33 on the waiting list and they never got there! Enjoy your trip and i'm waiting for your report with picture.

Hi looch,

Sector 11 and the last party in Oct. Huge population. Yes, very tempting to wait for another one..... (bigger, better, closer, whatever).

I'll keep applying........

Yes (assuming you meant to include the word "resident").

Just got off the phone with them. I want to clarify this point: You have to be a resident to participate in the draw, BUT anyone, resident or non, can be invited to participate by the winner.
