Going with a 1911 Para......which one do u suggest?

Literally...I have just acquired my second...
I have had a 18 9 Limited with the LDA trigger and it has made an outstanding
unit for informal target, IPSC Production, plate matches, teaching newbies..
It has been reliable and has digested everything that I've fed it...
I have just picked up another one in 45 ACP.
I would go with the Limited, but in 9mm, with the LDA trigger.....
Easy to handle, accurate, modest recoil, versatile, and reliable....

I've heard problems with 1911's and anything other then .45, is the Para more "behaved" with smaller calibers?

I like my Para p14-45 Ltd, feels a bit bulky at the grip, otherwise a good looking, nice shooter.
Wood grips for it are hard to get though....I placed an order at S&A about 8 months ago...still haven't arrived....pretty much given up.
....think I paid around $1300.

Why is the 40 S&W double stack prefered over the 45 acp ?
IPSC standard division speaking .
Thanks

I don't shoot IPSC (yet)

But I would assume, because of the recovery of a .40 is "quicker" then a .45.

That being said and done. I own a P14-45 (bought new June 99). I have replaced the front site to a narrower one and replaced the grips with Hogue wrap arounds. I love the thing and will swear by it. A fellow shooter has the P16-40 Ltd (bought in the same time frame). I can shoot it marginally faster (rapid fire) with the same amout of accuracity (sp). I'm sure with the "running around" with IPSC, every little bit helps. (plus .40 ammo is cheaper then .45 ammo)

My 2 cents

For sure I would go with the P14-45 Limited. The 16-40 are nice, but my preference is in the 45 ACP. I have had 6 Paras since I started shooting and have always preferred the double stacks as they give me better grip and balance.

Altho right now, I am hanging on to one 16-40 and one 14-45

For a numbe of reasons, not all of which apply to Canada.

First, 40 S&W makes major power factor and so you are in a more competitive scoring bracket. Although 45 ACP also makes power factor, 40 S&W is softer recoiling which makes it faster since you can follow up your shots quicker.

Also, for people living outside Canada magazine capacities are much higher in 40 S&W than 45 ACP. For example, the P16-40 has a 16 shot mag, the P14-45 has a 13 shot mag. Those 3 shots can save you time wasting mag changes.

Finally, a double stack 45 ACP generally will have a thicker grip than a double stack 40 S&W (although not in all makes) and so for people with normal sized hands the 40 S&W may be more user friendly.

.45 brass is also about 3 times the price of .40

i think im going with a Para. Now i need suggestions on which one...I have about $1500 budget....if thats even enough?
Since you are only allowed 10rds. in the mag, get one with a "thin" grip unless you prefer the "high capacity" "fat" grip
