Gold Cup VS Spartan (STI)

Both good guns.
The gold cup is the higher end of the colt line and the Spartan is the entry level of the STI line.
If your looking at purchasing either I think you will be very happy with either, so buy both!

Had two Gold Cups. Not impressed with the fit/finish. Did not like the wide trigger. Accuracy was average for 1911s, the tuned and Barsto'd Colts I had were way better pistols.

Haven't seen or shot a Spartan, but it has everything I need or want in a 1911. This will be the 1911 for me, if ever I want to spend more than 400 bucks for a new 1911.

I got both. Colt is a finer gun, Spartan is very well made. Both have their unique features. My Gold Cup (Series 70) handles better, recoil is more uniform and looks better finished as well. The Spartan is a less expensive gun, but reliable and accurate as the Gold Cup is. How important is it to own one or the other (or both) for your ego?

Hey
Bought a new Gold Cup 45 was not impressed for what I paid for it. Bought STI Range Master in 45 and Trogan in 9 mm very happy with them no problems great shooters and very accurate

I've had the pleasure of shooting several gold cups, none of them impressed me, I'm not the best shooter out there but I can put a few on the page ;)

I owned a spartan for awhile, had to sell it :( anyways, it was fantastically accurate, to the point that it was ridiculous.

I wasn't expecting the moon when I bought it new from armco. But it exceeded all expectations by a mile and then some.

Recoil is light, no slack in the trigger, trigger is crip and no over travel, nice beaver tail.

I can't say enough of this gun, even under rapid fire, (IE pulling the trigger as soon as the sights were back on target) I could easily place the shots within 6-8 inches at 25 yds.

And without resting between shots, two handed I could manage groups of 2" or less at 25 yds.

Here are some targets I shot rapid fire, all with wolf reloaded 230gr. TMJ

First one is nine shots (8 round mags plus an extra from another mag) Not too spectacular, except for the bulleye, probably the first shot

Second one is 15 shots (two 7 round mags plus an extra from another mag) 4 shots inside 2" and 8 within 3 3/4" circle

Third one is 21 shots (three 7 round mags) 10 shots within 3 3/4" cirlce and 5 within the 2" circle one shot you can't see but is almost off the page in the lower left hand corner

I haven't managed that with any other gun.

Finally, it is the most forgiving gun, if you flinch a little or jerk the trigger a little, more often than not the shot will still go very close to where you were aiming.

My spartan was as accurate as some of the $2500 sti's at the club.

Forget the gold cup unless you like parting with lots of money for a name.

I've owned Colt Gold Cups in the past, including a Series 70 and Series 80. I currently have a Series 70 GCNM. I haven't owned one but I would buy a Spartan.

NAA.

Kinda like comparing F 150's and King Ranches....they'll do what they are made to do but one does it nicer.

I love shooting my spartan...somehow I shoot the .45 much more accurately than other pistols.

I think I also have a reliable load worked up now, so I expect to shoot it a lot more.

I'm the first to admit that I don't know sh**t about guns, unlike many people on this forum - but I know what I like, and I know what I have learned.

In this case it means that STI evidently makes a pretty nice firearm. The fit and finish is really fine, compared to, say, a Para, and it has a heft, a solidity that is really satisfying. What really convinces me though, is how comfortable it is to hold - the ergonomics are really good. It just fits in your hand, and points where you want it to, effortlessly. And this results in pretty good shooting scores.

Consistent with my knowledge of guns, I really can't shoot worth a damn either. Oh, the zombie is toast, no doubt, but my groupings, rather than a 2 inch diameter, usually have as much as a 6 inch diameter, with, naturally, one or two free-lancers that ignore the rings completely.

I don't want to even think about how poorly I would shoot with a Norinco. ;)

Hmm...if they both shoot well, I will take the cheaper one, don't mind it is a little uglier. But I went Italian Sport last week and handled a 9mm Spartan, it was so nice. I don't think I will ever put some money out for a colt.

I bought a Spartan 45 ACP a couple weeks ago. It arrived on Monday and I took it out today. I put 400 rounds of cast and jacketed bullets through her with not one issue. Not only did it work well but is very very accurate. I have never been so impressed with a semi auto pistol the first time I used it as I am with this one. I can shoot a buddies Colt whenever I want and I am in no way as impressed with his gold cup as I am with this Spartan. His colt is always giving us some grief one way or the other. Just my 2 cents worth.
