Anyone have any experience with the Stevens Goldwing 512. I've been cautioned not to buy an inexpensive O/U, but it's inexpensive or not at all.

Thanks,

I do not personnally own one, but a guy at the Montreal Skeet Club showed up with one about a month ago. It was brand new, never fired. Before he had gone through his first two rounds of skeet, the stock had cracked in two places.

My two cents of wisdom: stay away from the Gold Wing. Find a used Beretta or Browning O/U. It will outperform and outlast the Gold Wing.

I did a test on a 28 gauge Goldwing last year, fired it with hot loads, and it never once did anyhting except shoot where it was pointed.
I sold it the same eay of the testing, as this was my intent anyway.
They would be fine for foruse and the occasional round of skeet, but i would not want to put 5,000 rounds a month through one....

I own one and was really happy with it for the first five months I had it. I say "was" because I finished a round of skeet with it and about an hour later when I went to shoot another round the first shot on high one was a resounding click. The fireing pin was broken, I should say still is broken as Savage sent me the wrong fireing pin to fix it. To that point only about 1700 rounds had been put through it. As soon as it's fixed it'll be going to the gun dealer to be traded on something better. Really nice handling gun and swings well. For once and awhile use it'd be ok but not for weekly use. I know you said cheap or nothing but wait a while and raise some more bread and get the next step up.

There were three at our Trap & Skeet club and after several hundred rounds developed fireing pin/trigger problems. One of our junior shooters had his back 4 times in one year for fireing pins -- finally gave up on it. The common thing I've noticed is that after a while if you shoot the bottom barrel first, the top barrel fireing just goes Klick. Fiteing in the reverse order seems to work for a time but then neither will work.
Luck!
