I plan on giving the word to order this one on Friday, any reason why I shouldn't ?

I originally had my mind on this one, til I found the Savage. I was undecided for a while, I want both, but can only have one......right now.

Ruger 10/22

Go with the 17 hmr.You wont be disapointed:)
I have no 22s left in my collection because the 17 is that good. Some guys will say price of ammo is a big differance but the accuracy and and the splat you will see when you whop a gopher is priceless:)

.17HMR is expensive and won't do any better job on critters then some of the .22LR ammo out there. Get the .22LR, cheap and plenty accurate.

You know me and how much I love 'dem 10/22's ....
I will not try to talk you out of this buy because that savage is just to dam beautiful....enjoy your new toy:)

Yep, I hear these .17's can really rip em apart, thats what I'm looking for. Never shot one myself though.

Not worried about the ammo cost.

I figured on the 10/22 for the fun factor, get rid of alot of ammo in a short time, but then I figured there'd be as much fun factor in nailing a gopher in the head at 100 plus yards.:D

I realy like the look of the savage, 22 mag would be my choice:)

.22 mag....for the weight of the bullet ? or ????
I understand the .17 to be more accurate but more suceptable to wind. Did that make any sense?

I would go with the Ruger. Just that it can be customized and accurized to your heart content if you ever feel like it. The .22 LR ammo cost and choices cannot be beaten at this time. Another + later on, used they sell like hotcake !!

Consider the model 40 in 22 hornet. If you reload, thye cost about the same to shoot. Trajectory is about the same, recoil is almost nil, and power is a lot better

Yes as you imply both is the right answer but that damn budget. But what you have is a happy toss-up, either way you go you will have one of the funnest gopher guns going, those are both right answers. If ammo price is not an issue go 17, my 22 only left the truck when I was out of 17.

Though for me ammo price was an issue, feeding an hmr in a high volume gopher field can get to you. So I added the botom one to my collection this year, I expect to give it a work out this weekend. The idea is the T takes all up to 75 yards and the hmr goes from there to 200.

That's what I'd do too for the exact reason's you've mentioned. You can get really good velocity out of the 33 grain .224 bullet and even load the Hornet down to .22 long rifle or .22 magnum ballistics.
