Then start by reading. Then read some more. This exact question was answered and it is still on the front page of this sub forum. Just scroll down, it's half way down the page. Two seconds and you would have had your answers. Look I'll even post the link her for you: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=286537

We just get tired of answering the same question every day when it has already been answered.

I am looking at getting a M16 style assult rilfe thats not restricted. This isn't for anytime soon but I would like time too see whats out there and look at price points....would like to keep it under $1,500.00 before taxes if posible. The only MUST for me is durability/quality. I want a non-restircted one if possible to have a adjustable butt stock but its not a BIG deal. I want it non-restricted so I can use it more often and easily. I have seen the C7 assult rilfe made by Colt Canada and I like it, is there a civilian verison of this?
You're gonna get a lot of distortion here by some of the "mis-wording" you used, but for your sake I'll try to clear some things up for you by the numbers. For starters, you cannot purchase any "assault rifles" in Canada (neither with the US for most states, or most of Europe). Assault Rifle defines the weapon as a rifle with semi/full automatic fire selection, whereas such only the military and law enforcement can use.

As for non-restricted, the only variant you can get is the AR-180B:

The gov't has classified all M16/AR15 look-alike firearms restricted... because they're "evil-looking weapons of mass death" as seen by the fat ##### brainless paradoxal liberal populace. Even tho all ARs are nothing more than a semi-auto mag-fed .20 cal rifle, they are chastised just because of how they look (in obvious relation to their military counter-parts).

Now, when it comes to durability and quality, you get what you pay for. If you spend the minimal amount on an AR rifle or carbine (cheapest I've seen running at approx. $700), you should only expect to get a "good enough rifle". However, like anything else, you do have your various brands of rifles to choose from. I would say a good rifle/carbine, without any serious additions/modifications, would run you at about $2k. This is all extraneous, though, if you do not have your RPAL.

In which case, your best bet is the AR-180B. Only problem there is that those have been discontinued, so good luck locating one!

...

P.s. the C7 was made by Diemaco in 1984. Diemaco bought production rights from Colt of their M16A2 and designed/produced the C7 for the CF as the standard issue rifle (replacing the FN C1). In May 2005, Colt bought Diemaco and the company renamed to Colt Canada. Just extra info if you're interested.

I think the wolves are out because of the use of the words "assault rifle" instead of "black rifle" and "M16" well... google "AR15"

Do some research find the tough questions you need answered and you should find the forum very helpful, you won't have to defend yourself :)

I do own my RPAL and its looking like restricted is the only way to go. Now this is totally off topic but I do fear gun bans and am worried about the guns that will be the first that will be grabbed gun grabbers if this happens ie. handguns, semi-autos, carbines. I am just worried about it being a possible waste of money but I just gotta put that aside. Is there anything close to a C7 semi-auto only (hope that is worded correctly).....I've come to like Colts guns from what I have read.

Look for AR-15's

Do you own a semi .22LR? unless you have money to burn start small then go big. If you start with a black rifle you may not get much trigger time.

$1500-$2000 will put the gun in your safe but thats it.

I bought a Colt LE 6920 to ease my AR desires, sort of like a C8 if you use your imagination...

Robinson Arms may interest you, being non-restricted

It just doesn't look good to me.

Some AR15 brand names to look at:

LMT @ Questar/blueline
CMMG @ Questar
Saber Defence @ wolverine supplies
Armalite @ wolverine supplies
Stag @ armseast

Stag Arms seem to be a favoured black rifle on here? That true? They seem to have everything going for em.

Everybody and their brother has gotten into the AR business in the US and they are starting to filter into Canada.. I've owned or own LMT, Stag, Bushmaster, DPMS and RRA uppers and lowers.. Haven't had problems with any of them that aren't present in a mass produced product..

That question has been answered about 20 times as well... Whos' the best it's a subjective question depends on what you are looking for and how you weight your responses..

  • Stag is not the only brand out there..But they are good...
  • RRA (rock river arms) is fairly popular,
  • DPMS and Bushmaster have had their ups and downs,
  • Sabre Defence look interesting but I've not handled one..
  • Remington, Smith and Ruger all make an AR-15 and have some unique features
  • ATR(Alberta Tactical Rifle) has made his own lowers and they are unqiue as well
  • Dlask well it's dlask.. I have no first hand knowldege of his AR's
  • CMMG has a good repuation...
  • Spikes
  • TI (tactical innovations)

Who have I missed..

Another member & I bought Doublestar lowers & built them up. Excellent quality.

If you're looking for a fun and possibly inexpensive way to get into the AR game, try building one up from parts off the EE. If you're not handy, buying them whole off the EE is a good way to save at least on the taxes if not more sometimes.

If you're like me, you have to get one in your hands before you know what you like and don't like. What works and what doesn't. So you might as well get in the game and then try figuring it out later.

So if I buy a lower or upper.....which one do register? or both? the then them that i've built one rifle outta em or what?

I would recommend a deagle in .50 BMG. You can get the shoulder stock and extended clips to give it the stopping power of a machine gun.
