Good 22lr pistol? Not target type

I have a Beretta Model 71 pending transfer. If I like it enough I'll get the six inch barrel cut down to 4.2 inches.

You best hold onto it sir. Someday the value will raise skyward just as Garand prices rose sharply recently.
Maybe not to the same degree however persons will discover this little gem in the sandbox.

Medium size frame, steel in the slide where it really counts. Alloy elsewhere. Solid 25 yard performer maybe 50 with enuf range time. Reliable like Ak-47.

i own pretty much every 22 pistols mentioned above and when asked which one I would keep if I could only keep 1, it would be the Browning Buckmark.
they of course have many different variations, me personally I like the browning buck mark practical urx.
it has a super comfy grip (the URX part of the name) fibre optic sights and a bull barrel.
its chewed every brand of ammo I could find and never had an issue and it's more accurate than I am.

if you just want a training pistol to shoot on the cheap then of course look to get a 22 version of what your shooting in 9/40/45.
I did this for Glock and M&P and PPQ.

but Browning is my go-to.
and as a testament to how nice they are, every time I take someone out to the range and we take my Browning that person ends up going and buying one afterwards.
I believe they can be had for around $500 and change.

Better check into what the support is for Grand Power now if one is on your short list. Last I heard Dave shut his company down. No idea if someone else picked it up.

I sure like 'em! And Rugers. And High Standard and Colt and... The subjective shooting experience is very different. They can all be had in target, hunter, pocket pistol and range plinker formats. Each of which is enjoyable for different reasons.

hank2 (OP) seems really set on a duty-style pistol, otherwise there are lots of options in this direction.

Support is an issue, for sure. Especially if you plan to use it a lot.

There are not many high mileage reports out there. I just stumbled across the n8sguntalk 20000rd review of the G44. Pretty impressive. Sample size of one, but it's useful data if you're going to be putting some miles on yours.

(Short version: G44 hadn't broken by 21k. TX22 required warranty twice by 14k)

Well I just started exploring 22pistols so I am open to change, So far I have shot ppq, m and p 22, and victory, if I go duty style I want one with a barrel that stays in the slide when you takedown like g44, which I have a holster or two already, from a g19. If I go more in the sw22, buck mark, mk4 way, I am not sure? But watching reviews of the buck mark takedown now. Thanks my friend showed me how the mk2 and mk3 takedown the other day, doesn’t t look too bad

I never take my buckmark down just clean what I can reach.

Brownings are super easy to clean. Manual tells you just to clean what you can, with the slide locked back. And only to dissemble it when you need to change the firing pin, or recoil buffer. I prefered it over the Ruger MK3 I had. Sure mine is an older target model. But I just liked that style.

My wife has a Buckmark. It might have 5k rounds through it. Never taken apart. Toothbrush, Q-tips, and a boresnake.

I have watched a lot of you tube reviews, and talked to a lot of people about 22 pistols, even rented and shot friends guns. The more I learn the more I am open to maybe a buck mark or a victory, leaning buck mark. Not the gun I wanted at first but boy you just never know till you shoot them.

My Buckmark comes to the range every time. I prefer it over the TX22 or the M&P…. I have a URX model. I did some modifications though…

It's hard to beat the value of the G44 for you if you already have holsters and mag pouches. It's very, very light - I think it's the lightest available of all the options we're talking about. And the magazines are confidence inspiring (unlike most rimfire handgun mags, imo).

Options for holsters and especially mag pouches for the other options are limited (or nonexistent).

The other advantage of duty style pistols that hasn't come up is a rail for attaching lights/lasers if that's your thing.

And if you wanted to mount a red dot I think your only options would be one of the Ruger Mark IV or Browning Buck Mark pistols.
