Good 22lr pistol? Not target type

Regarding take down and cleaning. My Beretta 71 takes about 5 seconds to take down, cleaning is really easy and takes another five seconds to put it all back together. Much different from my Ruger mark 3.
Very reliable and even shoots that unfortunate red and green Christmas stuff that Cabela's carries. Barrel leads up with Wildcat, but still shoots. Great big burst of flame with stingers and velocitors. Very happy with this pistol.
The grip seems to fit both large and small hands.

High Standard; nothing better.

I like your loyalty but... It depends... I love my High Standards, I have three. I also love my Colt Match Targets (3), my Browning Medalist/Challengers (2) and my S&W Model 41. I only bring these all up to show my personal experience with these handguns. They all have fantastic triggers and look beautiful.

The only problem with the High Standard is the magazine. If it isn't properly adjusted they just won't feed reliably. They can be adjusted, of course, but my Buckmark is far more reliable out of the box. I have purchased extra magazines for my High Standards and they usually have to be adjusted... That's fine for some but not the ideal first experience. To be fair, my first High Standard came with a well-worn magazine that worked well. It was the spares that caused me grief.

Ruger standard with adjustable sights if you can find one or a CZ . we had Ruger mark 2 pistols at our club for new members to shoot in the beginning and they were used so much that is wasn't funny . very reliable 22 pistol .

What is a good 22lr tx22 seems to get great reviews, I am a little reluctant to get in bed with Taurus, there’s the ruger sr22, ppq22, m and p 22, colt1911 22 ,but not really wanting a1911 type 22, thinking m and p , walther, ruger sr, am I missing anything.
Not sure if you picked one up yet, but there are a lot of Colt Huntsman's for under $600 at local gun stores. It's in no way modern, and that could be a part of the charm for you. They work great, the tear down isn't that bad, and the grip angle may be something you like. These are real Colt's as well, made in the USA.

About two years ago I foolishly let go a Star FR Sport model with 4.2 inch barrel. I bought it primarily for the teenage youths in my family to learn about safe handling and enjoy shooting handguns.
Controls all the same place as a 1911. Including the mag release. Real steel all throughout. Not one but of alloy in its construction. Easy tear down for cleaning. Reliable with most ammo.
Regret selling it.
Is why I keep an eye out for the Beretta 71.

I am fortunate as both mine have the straighter "military" style grip, take the same Mags, and both feed from all 4 mags that I have equally well. I use Federal Automatch in these exclusively. I am not a fan of the the Buckmark, as I find they do not balance as well; the Medalist and Challengers are great guns. If I could afford a S&W 41, I would have one also!

What makes the HS is the trigger. I also found that my HS sharpshooter with the bull barrel fits perfectly in my 1911 holster.

M&P 22 is a pretty decent little gun, I ordered spare mags from Brownells a while ago when they were hard to find here.

I had a M&P .22 and it was a great little pistol. It was quite accurate and reliable but sold it when I stopped shooting the M&P in 9mm as I used the .22 as a cheaper training aid.
