hi im looking for an all around good 308 rifle. somthing thats easy to carry in ther bush as well as hunting. any sugestions?

I've been borrowing a remington 700 in .308 from a buddy for a couple years and have dropped a number of deer with it. As I don't put many rounds through it in a year, I've considered a savage axis in .308 for myself. Figure by the time you get in some trigger practice, confirm you're sighted in and then actually head out hunting, I don't think I need to spend too much on a deer rifle. Lots of options out there. Happy shopping.

This discussion should be moved into the "hunting and sporting arms" section. But this question gets asked almost every other day there. The short answer is go to the gun store and shoulder a few.

well im looking to spend about 700 at the most with a scope. i was consdering the ruger gun site. but its just so frickin exspencive. i will also be using this gus for prtction agenst animals.

A bush/survival/defense rifle should be compact. A Ruger 77 compact, Browning Micro or Remington Model Seven would all do the job. The Ruger Gunsite is probably a handy choice for that do all rifle except for that darn detatchable magazine, it'll always get in the way of one handed carry. For a fast repeat shot consider a Savage 99.

My Stevens 200 was $329 plus HST and $25 shipping. I got her a bushnell 3200 for $200 and probably paid between $40-50 for the bases and rings. It was a pleasure to carry her in the woods two weeks ago, provided a good sight picture at dawn and dusk, and shoots really well.

The Stevens is a great design modelled after the Savage 110 series and worth picking up before they discontinue it (the Edge might replace it). Aside from the lack of Accutrigger, plain stock and finishing, it's essentially just as good as lots of more expensive rifles.

Ruger gunsite scout is short, stainless, detach mag, 308win, and iron sights. I believe it gets 1-3moa based on what ammo you use.

Mine will be here soon I hope, so I'll have all year long to make a load for hunting season. I'm hoping the gun will do 1.5 inches consistently, or less with handloads so we'll have to see.
