Im looking at buying a good composite/synthetic stock for my Model 70 crf and am looking for some input?
I emailed McMillan and they have a 6 month waiting period...really long...I know its worth the wait but perhaps there is something in that same class/quality that I can consider.
Does anybody know if you have to pay for the Mcmillan prior to it being made or do you give them a credit card # and they take the funds when its done??

Cheers!!

I downloaded the McMillan PDF oder form tonight. I am going to phone them tomorrow; put their number in my cell phone.

I want one of their CZ Express stocks for my ZKK-602 and maybe for my M-700 8x57.

I don't care about the wait; it it is 2 weeks or 6 months, depending on what they tell me, I may place the order. There is a bunch of stuff I am considering to do to my ZKK-602; I am not in a hurry.

You can also check out Wildcat Composite stocks. I know Corlanes uses them on their custom rifles. They're based out of Sherwood Park (edmonton) so its always nice to support the small Canadian guy.

I ordered a Hogue stock for my Win M70 direct from their website. I tried to get the local Edmonton dealer, Milarm, to order one in but they couldn't be bothered. It is one of their overmoulded stocks. A bit heavier than some but I liked the non slip grip and how quiet they are when a branch hits them in the bush. A good deal at $150 for the pillar bedded style and $280 for the full length bedded, plus shipping.

I ordered my Mcmillans through 24hourcampfire.com, contact Rick Bin

the earlier you order, the shorter the wait. My first two took 5 months, I am due to receive a 3rd in September for my 8mm

All of my hunting rifles wear McMillans....I love them.

My opinion, but If a stock is worth a financial stretch it is worth the wait.

A McMillan is worth the wait.......

Bansners are a great stock as well, Wildcats are nice light stock, and there are several other good stock makers out there. Those are the 3 that I have tried and out of the 3 McMillan wins hands down.....

I had custom fiberglas stocks put on my .30-06 and my .338WM by K&S Arms, Edmonton*. Karl told me that the stocks had been made in Edmonton, but I have never actually known who built them. They are great stocks, is all I know about them.

*Edit: That was something like 12 years ago...

After looking at their website I'm pretty sure they are Wildcat Composites.

I am going to contact Wildcat Composites immediately to enquire about another for my M-700 8x57 and also my ZKK-602!

I went ahead and ordered a Remington Classic today. I went with a marbled green/grey/black molded in.

Money is no object. I didn't even ask the price... I think it's something like $450 though. :)

Hell, if money is no object, get one for me too.:p:D

^ Well you know what I mean... ;)

I am going to try it on my 8x57 and my .300H&H.

Supposedly the McMillan stock will accept any M-700 long action. The stock on the 8x57 has already been glass-bedded so it will likely end up on the .300H&H. If I like it enough I might get a second and put one on each of those rifles, which will make them both a heckuva lot better in the rain, snow, besides preserving the near new stock the .300 wears. The 8x57 stock has been beaten up and is not as big a deal as far as that.

Okay, in the middle of typing this, Stewart from Wildcat Composites phoned me. So now I figure on getting one of those built as well! He said the M-700 is a piece of cake, since it so common. I'm going to go visit him in the next month, like as soon as the wife is comfortably seated in the airplane! She's leaving me... :D

This will actually be pretty cool. I will be able to assess the merits of each and really compare them head-to-head. I know they are both excellent.

Only for a month though. :p

I have two atfermarket stocks; both of them were made by Robertson Composites. If I were to replace a stock tomorrow, it would be with another Robertson stock; they are really well made and Ian Robertson knows what he is doing.

I've got a Wildcat that seems to be a very nice stock.
A MacMillan that's all right.

I have 3 rifles with Brown Precision's on them and they are flat out the best synthetic IMHO. They just seem to fit me better and I do like the longer pistol grip area.

The only downside to a Brown is they come roughly inletted, but hey, gunsmith's have to eat too.:D

Btw, I should add that a rough blank from Wildcat Composites is only ~$250, which is pretty good I think.
You can buy any kind of recoil pad that you like, sling swivel studs, and then paint it yourself to finish it.

If you want to get the thing completely finished then it is running something like $450.

Stewart also said as the stock comes it will require a bedding job.

That is a Wildcat Composite on my .338WM, installed by K&S Arms, Edmonton.

What did you find out about a stock for a 602?

.

Paul, I can order one direct from McMillan but I have a guy who has contacted me and says he's got a McMillan that he wants to trade for my original Euro Hogsback stock.

I talked to the guy at Wildcat Composites and asked him about the Brno but they do not have a mold for it, so it's McMillan or trade.

I'm still not certain what I will do. The Brno's need the CZ Express stock so I sent buddy an email to ask if he has that specific stock.

Pacific Research (now Rimrock) used to make a nice fiberglass stock for the 602, but the are apparently are not selling stock blanks these days.
