Good auto Shot gun for trap and skeet

Now I'm very very interested in the AL391 and have handled a few in the gun shops. Does it eject straight sideways? I'd hate to use it for doubles and keep distracting my squad mate that has to shoot next.
Mine ejects sideways and forward. But there are T&S shell catchers for the 391 that work well for singles trap.

So CB, could I use it to shoot doubles without pissing off my squadmate? I used to use a T&S on the 11-87 so I could reload my AA hulls and just let the hulls hit the ground in doubles.

Claybuster's 391 is probably a sporting clays model. I have not looked at a 391 trap version but most of the previous beretta trap autos threw the ejected hulls straight down.

Thanks. Any other information would be appreciated. I may even lok at buying a Teknys Gold Sporting.

It it wasn't so cold I would go to the club and watch for a couple guys that have the trap versions. One of the fellows I shoot with has a teknys sporting and it flops them out a little bit but when he shoots on my left it doesn't bother me unless he beats me:redface:

I had a SX2 sporting for a while and when I shot trap and I didn't hit the guy to my right I would have the next shooter miss at me cause it got him. I think that any company designing a trap version, this would be a concideration,

Mine is a Sporting model and I've not shot doubles trap with it. I have shot singles though without the shell catcher and had no complaints from squadmates.

Well if you had a bunch of hard rights on all the posts, which the law of average says you must have, and didn't bounce a hull off of anyone then I should still consider the Teknys. I used to be an A class singles, 25 hdcp, and an A class doubles. Had to take a break from competitive trap to raise my boy. He's 19 now and it's time to try to someday be a AA-27-AA.

Thanks guys.

I was were you were and I am back after nearly 30 years. I don't shoot as much trap as the other clay sports, but when I do, I see quite a few 391 sporting guns used for trap. I have not paid particular attention, but I have not heard any complaints from other shooters. For me that says a lot, because many (not all or most) make excuses why they loose targets or concentration and I have not even heard one about a 391.

Hope that someday will be soon for you:)

Then get you butt out to the Calgary area next August for the all round clay target championship.

That's the thing Covey. I'm thinking that it's way easier to shoot trap with a good fitting sporting gun than the other way around. All of my previous trap guns were only good from a shoulder mounted position ready to call for a bird. For a call from low gun they were useless. I really like the looks of the Teknys Gold Sporting and it has interchangeable ribs too.

I think I might just post a WTB in the shotguns section. And BTW Covey, I've only shot one round of Sporting before (loved it) at Carstairs (Wild Willows). I was using a borrowed older Rem 1100 skeet gun with fixed skeet choke. Managed a 77. So I've waited long enough and the wife is practically pushing me back into clays, boy I love that girl!

You may be right there, but if I was going to get back into the trap thing and I wanted to be competative, I would get a dedicated trap gun and a sporting gun for everything else including doubles trap.

A 77! Not too shabby:)That was Silver Willow! I just got back into clays after being away for about 12 years. It's for me! I can be competative there and with a little practice I managed to sneak into A class and I think I might be AA or low masters next year, the Lord willing! but nearing 60 I do not have the $$$$, dedication and desire to be at the top of my game to go back to trap. I just happen to live within 30 minutes of a place where I can shoot trap, skeet, 5 stand, and international trap and skeet, and I too have the support of a loving wife:D

Sorry to get off track. I love o/u's but for recoil reasons I plan to get a 391 this year. Only one wife, but no limit on guns:)

Silver Willow! It's owned by Donny Day I believe. Used to marvel at his brother Allan shooting trap, he was a machine. I'm only 42 so I got a lot of shooting ahead of me to catch you. Sounds like you have a great location with plenty of clays to shoot at.

I just discovered that Beretta has a AL391 Teknys Gold Target. Sounds perfect for me, now I'm shopping for one. Great gun for all the clay sports according to Beretta.

Don still owns it. Brother Allan is still a machine, however an older machine with the odd clink, but in one of the aheia mags I just read of another recent 100 at doubles.

I'm back into the clay sports again! Bought a sweet looking AL391 Teknys Gold Sporting from another gunnut around here. Got it home, refitted the stock to accommodate the fact that I stand on the wrong side of the shotgun, and viola it fits perfectly. :)

Beautiful walnut, 5 tubes, tools and fitted case with socks for the taken down shotgun.
